It's not bad. You spend a lot of time waiting for guidance, if you ever get any at all. Lots of stupid taskings come down IE: "You're going to spend two weeks mowing grass around post." Deployments can be pretty tough depending on where you get sent but you get a lot out of it. They can be pretty awesome too depending on what your job is. Kuwait is not a deployment. Work is usually simple bullshit and not very engaging. Pay is pretty garbage unless you're deployed but if you live in the barracks and don't have much in the way of bills to pay you'll be making bank.

I've been in 14 years. It was great in my youth, but the deployments have broken me. I make 109K annually, before taxes, which makes my family comfortable. I'm probably going to finish my 20 in the active guard / reserve.

Yes. The benefits are awesome, and now that i have the G.I. Bill I can finally get my life on the right track.

If you aren't doing anything in your life then you should totally join. Whether you make it a career or just do your 4/6 to get your education benefits and deuce out, it will definitely put your life on track. I got to go to Korea for my first base, and spent 2 years in Italy and that shit was awesome.

However! the people you will come across and work for will make you hate your life. If you can put up with 4/6 years of bullshit then you will be alright. It's mostly little shit, but its ALL of the little shit.

I was at Aviano, It was totally awesome. Your friend will love it if he's into out doors type things. Their internet is shit, but like literally the base is 5 minutes from the base of the Alps.

The food is absolutely amazing/a little expensive but cola is pretty good too.

They will pay for everything just know for the medical field other than technicians really your need to go in through Officer Training School(OTS) for a lot of the better med field jobs. If you try for one enlisted you may get something good all depends on your scores and what comes down in that particular listing if you are trying to leave immediately. You can wait list for jobs, meds do tend to take a while longer but they are getting more med into the force.

I did one deployment in Mosul, Iraq. Been hit by 1 IED and shot in the back of my vest. Too many firefights to count.

I got to live in Germany for 3 1/2 years. Traveled all over Europe while there. I also got to travel all over Africa for work, while stationed in Germany. I visited DC a few times, including the pentagon.
They sent me to badass driving and advanced shooters courses.

Now I'm chilling using my Post 911 GI Bill, Paid tuition, Fasfa, 60% disability and Workstudy. Clearing around $50K tax free. While going to college.

I've seen more and lived more than 99% of people.

If you want the easiest military route, join the air force. I'm an f-15 engine mechanic and yeah some days are harder than others, but the deployments are easy (only 6 months) and we don't go anywhere harsh. I'm stationed stateside and our deployments are mainly in UAE. The asvab is easy af and if you get above a 70, you pretty much have any choice of job you want.

It's honestly what you want to make of it. Make it a career, and you're golden. If you're only enlisting for 4-6 years, you have to make the most out of it, to make sure you get the most when you get out. Go to classes, work on a degree while you're in. Don't do what I did and enlist because I drank too much in college, and then end up stagnating as a SPC, never actively seeking a promotion. I'm out now, and not a damn thing to show for it but a bad back, a fucked up knee, and a shoulder that'll never be right again.

You most likely need a Bachelors in the correlating field, in the AF you need one to become a Pilot so I would imagine its the same stipulations. However, some jobs are extremely competitive like OSI. I had a friend who was literally a brain and extremely fit, and nothing but perfect EPRS and numerous awards and still get disqualified for it. I'm pretty sure drone operator would be similar.
