(I'll even give you a minute to laugh.....)
... Anyway, speaking as one, I believe that's a troll.
Every year the state sent a state-certified teacher come to the house and do yearly tests, so it's not like anybody can just keep their kid locked in a basement. And if you fail the year-end test even once, you MUST put your kid in the public school system.
And we got books from schools anyway. I do think there are a lot of drawbacks to homeschooling, especially for parents (and for the kid, there's always the issue of lack of expanded social interaction), but really, I think there are a lot of positives to it.
That's not to say there aren't some crazy fuckheads that would teach their kid something like this, but if someone like that has a kid anyway, they'll try and teach them that regardless of who teaches them general education.
