its pretty difficult to fire a physician from a hospital for drug use. a physician can cone into work drunk at hospital and wont get fired. substance abuse/addiction will be seen as a disease, as that is the current medical model. theyll suspend you and make you seek treatment amd they bring you back to the job. all she has to say is that she is a substance abuse problem and add in a psychological disorder such as depression and shell get her job back.

You clearly don't get it. And you apparently don't have any experience in the EMS field. Character plays a very large role in these careers, I don't understand how you can't see it. Not just "oh it's a false complaint", it shows a character flaw that the fire captain would try to screw someone (who is in a very similar job) due to their own mistake. It shows that they lack integrity and honesty, only admitted to it once there was evidence they were caught. They don't just deal with "burning buildings", you trust these people to come into your homes and not steal or damage anything, you trust them to pull you to safety, you trust that they are giving you the best medical care en route to the hospital as possible, meaning they aren't drunk, they aren't touching you inappropriately, they aren't taking pictures of you, they aren't giving you the wrong medication, they aren't taking you to a shittier hospital because the better one is farther, you trust they are going through their entire patient assessment and not missing something critical, you trust that they aren't going to decide they don't like you and report something that didn't happen (or leave out something that did).

Now apply all this sorts of shit to a doctor. Why do you think there are so many sorts of crazy, intense background checks, through the government, go to your neighbors and old bosses to interview them, board interviews, scenario questions, letters of recommendation, personality tests, psychiatric evals, etc. Yes, they want you to prove you are qualified, but you also need to show them you aren't a sociopath because you are in such a sensitive and potentially power-abusing position. The Uber incident and the officer incident both show that the behavior may not be an isolated incident, they just have been lucky enough to not have been caught up to that point, while also showing potential for future fuckups.
