I grew up in the upper middle class. America has a lot of opportunity. With that massive flexibility, there are people who do really well and others not so much. It can go really hard on the down trodden compared to some other countries. If you have the qualities to do well then come on over.

The US is a big country. Most of the people are in big cities. There is lots and lots of countryside with small towns, farms and ranches. Mountains and woods.

You can hike the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine ... over 2000 miles ... and see pretty much nothing but wilderness.

The entire region between the Sierra Nevadas and Rocky Mountains is sparsely populated, for the most part.

Amazing country. Confusing history,conflicting politics, obvious lobbying interest in every aspect of life. In the large sense it is both a fantastic yet work in progress place. Far from perfect but good nonetheless.
Locally its great. You'll see a lot of culture and it varies from meltingpot to Anglo Saxon. Its freedoms are irreplaceable yet its history full of dark eras,like Europe. We will find our way. I dont believe Obama or Hillary or Trump or any one person will change that. America is an idea.
No one country is perfect. No country has ever not served its own interests. No country has ever not committed inhuman things in its history.

This reminded me of a story I read about problems with a particular gang in a US city/state - I believe the gang was mostly immigrants from El Salvador.
I forget all the details, but the jist of it was,
The authorities in that region got sick of the repeated crimes, and no punishment or operations seemed to deter this gang.
They took prison or arrest procedures like it was fun or something.

So the authorities tried a different approach - they deported some of the more violent or repeat offenders, and convinced the rest of the gang in future they will be deported just for being affiliated with a gang, or even minor crimes, since they had previous offences anyway.

Suddenly, the gang was terrified, nobody wanted to put their name to a gang and they started behaving more - the crime rate immediately dropped significantly in that area.

All other took was the mere threat of deportation to El Salvador, rather than cushy prison time in the US.

You have to appreciate, like her in the UK, we have immigrant crime problems precisely because prison time here is still better than civilian working life in many of their home countries.

If you go in for crippling pain, so bad that you can't even fill out the paperwork on your own, then you get stuck in the waiting room for 5+ hours only to be treated by some third-world doctor who barely passed med school because the profession doesn't get half the respect or salary that it deserves.
