Eby-Brown. Another warehouse that stocks gas stations and shit. It was all the bullshit that Amazon had, without any of the perks.

I work at Royal mail, i get paid about about $21 per hour (Converted from pounds)

how doe's it feel being paid so much less for a company that forces you into slave labor, i get an hour break for every 8 hours i work, and 100 hours holiday leave.

Dogstrollers. Like prams but for like labradors and other large dogs. I pondered how they were even remotely practical for like an hour after picking one.

I have some bad news for you it's 5 hours 6 hours depending on your job in U.S you have to take a break that sounds like a slave.

OK, you seem not to understand: Is it true that the time it takes you to pick up a specific item from the shelves is timed and calculated beforehand, so you have to take the shortest way through the warehouse.

Or, if picking up items was not in your job description. What did you do?

kinda not really. I got invited out for a day in edinburgh with a bunch of lads but i didn't last any longer than 7 after being kicked out for being half-asleep in a bar. pic related. other than that, shut-in basically.
>>
>>661823657
Not OP, other guy who worked for Amazon.

I was a picker (exactly what it sounds like), and you had an hourly quota. I don't remember what it was, but if you consistently didn't meet a certain percentage, you'd be fired. Very little leniency.
>>
>>661823657
Oh of course, but nobody gives a shit. I just go at a normal pace for everything because frankly the times between picking every item is largely inconsistent. You've got items that are tiny that will have your numbers soaring, items that are bulky which will keep you at a solid 50-70, or items that are stuffed in high-racking that you have to get a driver to collect for you, among other variations. I don't worry about it much at all since my targets are usually met without me even realising I was putting effort in.
>>
>>661823812
Uh that's sucks mate. I'm an IT fag and can't stay awake for so long at night. Being kicked out by feeling shitty after work is not cool.

Got any plans for the future?

Never worked at Amazon but I worked at a Macy's warehouse and holy fuck it was the most boring job I've ever done in my life just filling totes with make up and whatever its on my handheld and I couldn't listen to music and they bitch at you if you didn't do a certain paste and demote you to goodies bag if you did a shitty job in their eyes.
>>
>>661824330
Thank you. That's what I ment. (English not my first language fag here.)
I work in a bookstore, so Amazon is of interest.
>>
>>661824453
Oh, OK. It's interesting to hear that. Thank you for taking the time to answer.
>>
>>661824584
Will try and keep the amazon gig going until sometime after next christmas, at which point I hope I'll have secured a place of my own (living with parents atm) and safely segue into going back to college for a degree that's more marketable on a CV than journalism. that's the current plan at least. knowing myself, this'll probably change in a matter of months.
>>661824590
I suppose amazon is a bit better than that since the management are actually really nice guys and the variety of things I pick and occasionally gawk at each day is cool. I dunno man, it's not as bad a factory job as I was expecting when I first went in. Just long hours is all, I suppose.
>>
>>661820885
do you judge people based on their orders? and what's the weirdest thing you ever fulfilled?
>>
>>661824753
Nice, I worked at Barnes and Noble for 5 years before Amazon. Bookstores are great. Also, to add to what I said earlier, there was a timer of sort. My memory sucks, but for special items (like same day delivery), your scanner did tell you how long it should take to get it.
>>
>>661820885
do you guys occasionally take DVD and shake the fuck out of them or what.. people buying shit keeps you going man.. I am sure they push the hours, everywhere I have worked tries to get less people to do more work and push for less hours, but you end up working more.. its really all stupid and soul sucking mind numbing slave labor.. so why.. why take it out on the poor DVDs? I got a pr0n dvd one time it was so jacked the fuck up and I didn't send it back.. why? cuz embarrass thats why.. fuck you >:[

Macy guy again managers were the reason I left because they would tell me to go help in this department and I would and they would have a hissy fit because I was new and didn't know how another department worked even though it was the exact same thing just things were moved different.I didn't even give them a two weeks notice and told them I'm done after today and never returned. The hours were 6am to 6:30pm with 2 1 hour breaks and 1 45 min paid.

Not really because more often than not their "orders" are at the whim of someone who's higher than them in management. The low-tier guys who take care of me and give me batches frequently shit-talk the others and don't give much of a fuck. As for "weirdest" see >>661822852 but I just remembered that I recently had to pick one of those weeaboo dolls you get of the underage girls, it's like bro why the fuck would you put that anywhere in your room do you even want a girlfriend?
>>661825556
A lot of the DVDs I come across are already in shitty condition before they've gone through outbound processing, but I try my best not to endanger the discs.
>>661825584
Nope. I've seen items stowed in a single spot for months at a time. Dunno why they're kept their so long; probably for lack of demand from either the customer or vendor. Also, that pic is a stock I just pulled off of google. Pic related in my facility. No inside pics unfortunately
>>
>>661825584
Not OP. That's how mine looked, and I left 2.5 years ago. We were a high-something warehouse. Before I got there they carried refrigerators, treadmills, etc. But yeah, they stored millions of things. Certain items went to special areas that were closer to the shipping area.
>>
>>661822547
Money doesn't work that way. it would be the same wage in America. Buying a bar of chocolate over here for £1 would still cost you $1 over there. Their wage wouldn't be converted from English because they don't pay a converted wage.

Yes, that's what I read about Amazon (about the timers).
>>
how many miles per day do u normally walk and is there any down time?
>>
Not OP. I currently work at an Amazon warehouse and im a picker. I enjoy my 3 days off and make pretty decent money. The job is very monotonous as most warehouse jobs are and making rate isnt hard at all. Mainly I enjoy it because im dealing with actual people like you would in a retail store. Im more behind the scenes and still contributing to customer service sans the bitching of customers face to face.

I read somewhere it was like 12, but this largely depends on the items you're picking and where they're located. You might not even walk a mile some days with how much you just sit around and wait for drivers to get your shit for you. But in departments like outbound where you're constantly walking around for a variety of different items for orders then yeah that number seems a bit more accurate. Down time happens whenever you feel like it, but you better be nice to the managers or they'll start to notice those half-hours you spent not picking anything and approach you about it. Also reflects on your numbers sometimes.

Not OP. Probably 5-15, depending on shift length and your efficiency. And, no down time at all. If there ever was, we were sent home for the day.

>>661828943
Haven't stolen anything yet unless you count a few food stuffs here and there that others have given to me that I promptly eat. There's metal detectors when you leave for lunch/break which will go off if so much as a penny is in your pocket. This one guy got caught with a phone case on his way out and was promptly fired that day. Would rather not go down that route.

I'd imagine a lot of people steal shit since there's often talk about it, and they recently upped security in the high-value cages because stock was going missing.

As for what gets stolen, usually shit you can fit in your pocket like sweets, memory cards and other small computer parts, in extreme cases sometimes phones.
