Not same anon, but I have a small bag that I keep in the bathroom at all times on a shelf.
When I anticipate that I'll have the chance to get some good shots (e.g. when someone comes over) and won't be receiving any important calls, I mute my phone, turn on the hidden recording app I have, and stick the phone into the bag with the camera aimed out the end of the zipper.
Nobody ever goes into the bag (they know its mine and I don't have anything anyone else would ever need to borrow) so it's safe from snooping, and since it's just the camera peeking out the end of the zipper it's not very visible.
The only real issues are that the phone has rather limited storage capacity at the moment (no suitable sd card to stick in it that's not even smaller than the internal storage) so I have to keep track of how long I leave it recording and reset/clear it after about an hour of recording and I also potentially risk suspicion if I leave it in the bag too long/often, as I obviously can't answer my phone if its hidden in a bag in the bathroom.
As for the app I use, I use mobile hidden camera (just google that, first result). I use continuous image shooting mode on my phone because video recording triggers the stupid firmware shutter sound. My old phone didn't do that, so YMMV. If you decide to use it, do some testing before you actually put it to work to make sure it doesn't do anything unexpected. And you may have to purchase the license for it to actually be useful, so keep that in mind.
