The story is superficial, the mechanics are nothing special (yet fans think they're original and refreshing, don't ask me why), hurf durf muh pacifist/genocide (as if that has never been done before, for reference see any game with karma, middens RPG etc etc), muh closed eyes expressionless loli protagonist (geeze fucking louise), muh bullet hell. The OST is okayish I suppose, but this game does not deserve the hype it got when tumblr found out about it.

I haven't actually played through the game so my opinion is by no means fair, but from what admittedly little I've seen the combat system is awful and the story could be okay.

Starbound wasn't overrated for very long after release, at which point everyone realized how full of shit the devs are. I doubt any Starbound defenders even exist at this point.

The majority of the game feels really slapped together, with no real cohesiveness to any of the main areas in the game. The characters are cliché as hell, especially Papyrus, who literally goes through NO character development over the story, other than "I want to capture a human!" to "I don't want to capture a human!". The trial-and-error based bullet hell sequences aren't fun when you realize how bland and unoriginal the concept is.

Also the fanbase is literally cancer.

I actually haven't seen anyone claim the game is deep.

I enjoy the game, but it isn't deep in any way. The lore is barely on par with most games, but it's story quality is what people really mean.

If you decide to murder things the game really makes you feel like a piece of shit. There are also some pretty funny moments.

Basically it isn't bad, but it isn't great. Avoid the autistic fans and you're good.

i just played the demo
the good aspects of it
1) you don't have to attack every enemy you come across, sometimes you can just compliment or talk your way to victory depending on the type of enemy
2) you dont take damage based on RNG, the total damage you take is based on your skill through mini-games, so even if you are weak you are able to defeat a much stronger opponent through skill

other than this it is pretty meh
