I come from old money, OP. We are talking about over a billion USD in assets. It's quite spectacular I'm not totally fucked in the head or hooked on drugs. My older brother took me to live with him fairly early taking the role as my legal guardian, he's an extremely stern man. My family figured it would be best not to grow up with everything at my command. We live in a southern state and I do landscaping full time while I go to community college full time. I have over a hundred million dollars in a trust fund and yet I do physical labor 6 days a week during the day. I didn't earn my families money, I earn my $10/hr and that feels good. Without such a strict brother I would be miserable. He has brought normality to our lives. Our 2BR apartment cost $500/month. We budget for everything. Not a single co worker or friend knows about my wealth. Most likely I will donate every penny of it to an MS organization that isn't a scam as it's something very personal to me.

They sure are. Although there seem to be a few that actually put the money towards research and not marketing/in the pockets of jerk offs. Travelled across Europe and a few parts of Asia a few years ago. Absolutely fantastic experience but I never felt like I earned it. My biggest fear growing up was being like the other rich kids, I.e. faux hippies, "artists", and self proclaimed travelers. I feel guilty traveling knowing I didn't make the money to purchase the plane ticket/food/hostiles/etc.. Am I trying so hard to not be another rich kid that I'm making myself look like a rich kid? Probably. I respect those who have worked hard for their money but I can't morally justify being handed millions for simply being born into it.

I would like to take a small amount of that money and have a custom built stone house on some beautiful land where I can hunt/fish/camp out and throw some great parties with friends. That's my ultimate dream. Maybe something to pass down to my futur children one day when I'm dead and gone. I'll tell you one thing though, these past few years living on a small hourly wage has given much such an invaluable appreciation for money. It's nothing radical as I have lots of money to fall back on if something happened but it's as close as I'm going to get to being normal.
