Western governments sell us on the fiction that they can keep us safe from everything, so when something happens which undermines that lie (Charlie Hebdo attacks, Sept 11th, etc.) we are all shocked and outraged.

However Africa and the Middle East are so continually fucked up that eventually people from the outside world stop caring because for those parts of the world shit like this really isn't that abnormal.
