The study he mentions about waiters not really getting paid more for better service doesn't address that servers get paid more for higher sales. Higher sales can be achieved by upselling, but that pales in comparison to how much your sales increase by turning tables faster. That means that the customers get seen faster as well. Win/win/win for employee, restaurant, and customer.

I personally figured that out when I was young and waiting tables. Some guys would basically suck dick under the table for a little extra and it would seemingly work, but they'd hardly make any sales and I'd just do my job, but as fast as I could to turn tables and make way more money in a fast nickel than a slow dime.

I actually genuinely disagree with this. Especially concerning the scientists and etc. Why would any self respecting country send their greatest minds into war? What if they come up with the next game changing weapon? The next technology to give our soldiers the competitive edge? Technology is more than half the battle (see British colonists vs Native Americans as a historic example)
