I can't believe I'm posting on one of these stupid fucking troll posts... nevertheless, there is a basic misunderstanding about "order of operations" that all of you cuntbags who get "100" make... the very first operation - parenthesis - does not mean you only start with what is inside a parenthetical; it means you deal entirely with the parenthetical first before moving on to the next operation. Thus, 2(x+y) is not actually 2*(x+y) FOR PURPOSES OF THE ORDER OF OPERATIONS; it is 2(x+y) = (2x + 2y). The fact that you are given known quantities for x and y - here, x=5 and y=5 - makes no difference in how you deal FIRST with the entire parenthetical, which INCLUDES multiplying the 2, which applies EQUALLY to everything within. So 20/2(5+5), unless specifically expressed as 20/2*(5+5), is actually expressing:

2(5+5).

Division and Multiplication have the same priority when there are no parenthesis. OP intentionally put them together so people would argue. When doing math that shouldn't happen, that's why parenthesis, brackets, etc. exist. So people can write equations in a way conflicts are avoided.

I'd usally do the division and pultiplication in the order they come:
20/2=10
10*(5+5)=10*10=100
BUT!:
What really irritates me is the missing multiplication sign between 2 and (5+5), because if i remeber it right, if you caculate with 2y instead of 2*y, for example, the mulitpication is done first, so it would be:
2*(5+5)=2*(10)=20
20/20=1
