Event Horizon is such a shit tier movie. Ooh, a door shutting really fast is super scary. Oh wait, look someone has blood on their face and missing their eyes, it must be deep and significant. This was the horror movie all the hipster intellectuals thought was brilliant. Read a book, watch a better movie, or drink some bleach, fucktard.

Oh I'm sorry, maybe I should suggest some Jerry Bruckheimer movies or Michael Bay movies then. They seem about on par intellectually with Event Horizon. Perhaps you can try Men In Black II or 3? I'm sure you would also love anything starring Cameron Diaz.

Sunshine
Sphere
Pandorum
Moon
Edge of Tomorrow

all fantastic scifi movies, the first three are more scifi/thriller/horror movies, similar to Event Horizon, Moon is a more psychological thriller I guess...don't really know how to categorise it, and Edge of Tomorrow is action, even if you hate Tom Cruise it's pretty good...though the ending shits my right of.

John Carpenter Intended for Mouth of Madness, Prince of Darkness and The Thing to be a sort of trilogy of evil.

Agreed. Although I did like how they kept the continuity almost perfect, so snaps to them on that.

A great upcoming film is 'HARBINGER DOWN,' a film developed entirely with practical effects in the same vein as The Thing, Pandorum and Event Horizon. Seriously excited.

>>604345087
>>Implying one is only a worthy human being if they know every obscure reference jammed into every film, series, or book ever made.
>>
>>604345829
I didn't like the movie as well though, for the aforementioned reasons. It was a nice concept, I like the whole destroyed world, everyone on a never ending train, poor people at the back have to fight to the front, that's all fine, but all the crazy shit that happens in the middle just made me didn't like it, slipping on the fish, stopping for their 'new years' the crazy british woman, the school/egg scene, all that bullshit. But again, it's just my opinion. Not fact.
>>
>>604341777
i dunno. the only thing that pissed me off about edge of tomorrow, is that it is entirely possible that tom cruise raped the female protagonist multiple times throughout multiple timelines, both with her alive and after she is dead.

i feel the movie did not portray this.

also, it did not explore other options. he effectively had infinite time. could have done so much, like become a pro at something, or invent new technology. but he does not.

>>604342066
its pretty clear. they all have a massive gangbang.
>>
>>604346058
I never said that. Learn to read dipshit.

I said I had a pet peeve (something that isn't normally considered bad, but irritates me specifically for unknown reasons) when people find a reference amusing without knowing the original source. Like all the hipster gamers that blast "the cake is a lie!" from their mouths without actually playing/knowing about portal.
>>
>>604346129
Yeah I think they should have spent a little longer on the groundhog day effect (doing crazy shit because you know it won't matter) but overall it was pretty good I think. The books pretty nice too.

>>604345941
Yeah I give them props for that, keeping the story going smoothly and referencing John Carpenters. It was a good movie but it was too similar to John Carpenters...but then I guess if they changed it too much people would have been all up in arms "THIS ISN'T A THING MOVIE! RABLERABLERABLE!" In the end though, the monster effect in the John Carpenters are good enough to hold up in this day and age anyway.
>>
>>604346489
Yeah, it's a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario. Of course the best solution would've been to not make a sequel at all.

Funnily enough the people who made both the 1982 film and the remake's practical effects (which subsequently got augmented with CGI without them knowing) are the studio producing, directing and developing Harbinger Down.
>>
>>604343116

exactly. it would have made for a more interesting movie.

I also dont get why at the end, he specifically woke up on that specific day. the movie dosen't elaborate any further.

i just saw it and thougt it was good, dint get the metaphor tho..
>>
>>604343832
>>604346835

He's right, sort of. You can have a movie which uses a sci-fi setting simply to house the story - it doesn't add to the plot. Think Having Romeo and Juliet set in Shakespearean times and now - they're both the same story but in two drastically different time frames, which really don't matter: you don't call it a historical piece or a modern day piece - it's just a romance.

Then you have movies which rely on the science fiction element to accelerate the story and move it forward.

It's about the global political structure in the microcosm of the train. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer and such. It's just about society and how the classes act.

But they could have done that without slipping on a fucking fish.

Haha was thinking the same thing, the production crew must be kicking themselves when the ISIS shit came out.

Elysium is pretty good, I liked it at least, it doesn't have a deep story or anything, more of an action movie, but it's got good themes and pretty fine acting.

>>604347467
He meant that when people watch it. Not when it was filmed/written.
>>
>>604347286

you realise that the sci-fi setting is the ENTIRE CAUSE of everything that's happening in the plot, right? It's a story about creating an advanced technological prototype that when tested causes horrible problems. It's about fictional technology having a disastrous outcome. It's literally a movie about scientific fiction.
>>
>>604347692
Well ok, the rich don't actually get richer, but what I meant by that is that the poor have their place and they don't move up, the rich have their place, and they don't move down, it's all set and nothing changes. Until the rebellion of course.

Haha and yes there is buddy. A stupidly obvious one at that, you are just retarded.

u got net flix? watch black mirror. first episode isnt sci fi really, everything after that is.
>>
>>604347286
Even if a movie is only set in a futuristic setting and it doesn't add to the plot, it's still a scifi movie. if it's a horror movie it would be a scifi horror, if it's a romantic comedy it would be a scifi romantic comedy (god that would suck ass) scifi is the setting description, not the plot description. You can't just have a sci fi movie...sci fi isn't an event, it isn't a them, it's a setting.
>>
>>604347926
the poor dont move up because they are poor.
