I only ever shave some parts of my face where not enough hair grows for a full beard. Essentially you just need to rub the razor through your face in a straight motion ortogonally to the blades.

Ok, that is a reason.
Trim it first, to the shortest lentgh you trimmer can do, then shave. Keeps skin irritations to a minimum and save a lot of time. It also prevents a lot of wear on the razor.
