I imagine it was probably better decorated than the average infantries armour, but i'm pretty sure romes armour was standardised to the lorica Hamata in early period (the chain) and lorica segmentum (the basic plate) in the later period, and neither branch had easy (if any) access to good steel so i don't think there was a tenable difference.
