Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has already been proven to be the ONLY effective martial art in a real combat scenario. I have been training for 6 years and have done sparring sessions with guys in a no rules type scenario from other martial arts who insisted they would kick the shit out of me easily (i'm around 145 pounds, they have all been larger. within reason here nobody 200+)

I have eaten a few shots for sure, but once I clinch with them I easily take them to the ground and their strikes mean nothing now. I very EASILY secure a choke or joint lock and they give up. In a street fight scenario I would just choke them out or break whatever limp I decide to latch onto.

No Bullshit, Tried and Test. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is all that matters

Judo is good for this, I'd do a bit of BJJ too so that you can get out of a ground fight quickly.

I have been jumped on the street by multiple opponents and while I did no damage to any of them I was able to clinch with the first guy so his punches didn't hurt me and I broke free and got away. I know that the reason I was able to stay calm and defend properly and get away was because of my training and hours upon hours of live sparring. Many other martial arts spend most of their time doing pad work or bag work etc. you simply can't go on sparring for 1-2 hours every day punching each other in the face where as in jiu jitsu we can spar at nearly 100% without fear of injury as long as the person taps out.

I sparred with a military guy who was trained in whatever they teach those guys. A lot of techniques he learned were pretty much BJJ techniques.

That BJJ techniques is getting old, I'm also thinking about training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu but I'm a 130 lbs. Tried Muay Thai before but I'm not comfortable with it. Also thinking about Jeet kune do because of Bruce Lee LOL but they did some demo on me, and I was impressed on their speed and how to counter clinch

Out of the "traditional" martial arts Judo is the most effective. In the real world throwing someone on their back is often enough, if it's not you can break limbs with an armbar or a kimura. BJJ is more effective though but it's not a traditional martial art.

For overall fighting effectiveness you obviously have to crosstrain different martial arts. The ones that are the most common in MMA are the most effective: BJJ, Wrestling, Muay Thai and Boxing.

MMA. Because it combines the best stuff out of every fighting style.

Also, it's easy to punch with a fist, it's only used for body hits, not head hits. In actual street fight we use hands to hit into head too and we have pretty devastating punches. But to make of your legs a killing machine, that's something you need to practice for a long long time. Much easier for boxers with only hands, but leg kicks are much stronger than a hand punch.

There are some crazy effective TKD kicks, wheel kick, side kick, turning side kick and front kick.

Since TKD stylists aren't used to getting punched in the face or getting kicked in the legs it's not effective by itself. It's a great base though if you learn the other shit, just look at guys like Anthony Pettis.

JKD is much more versatile, for how fast I like to move. I found that the stances in Shotokan rely much more on rigidity, and that's not how I like to fight. One can argue that JKD is more of a philosophy that can be applied to many different disciplines, but what I learned from Sigung Inosanto I found useful. It made my sparing better, and sharpened my reflexes as well as made me conscientious of space.

I asked him this and he said with no hesitation that if its for sure 1 on 1 jiu-jitsu will save your life but if its 2 on 1 or more and you have to figh,t the holds and clinching will get you killed. Only use grapples for throws, stay on your feet and strike. Muay Thai, kick boxing and western boxing are the best there.

That being said if you get into a fight with some one these days they will almost always havea weapon or back up.

There's nothing wrong with defending yourself, but if he was elbowed several times and wasn't bleeding, knocked out, or immediately fighting back, it wasn't a big deal, and there's no reason to chimp out.
