Around the time the Empress was considering what to do for dinner, the lazy mood was broken by a growing commotion in the entry hall. The guards in the throne room stood to attention, swords coming a few inches out of their sheathes, eyes focused on the large double doors.
The doors swung open, knocking against the walls to either side with a loud crack that made everyone in the hall jump as three large nagas slithered into the room. One, the largest, was a deep purple color that denoted the royal caste of his species, while the other two were the blood-red hue of the military caste, only slightly smaller than the royals. The three serpents slithered up to the throne, stopping about twenty feet away.
“You and I have business to discusssss, Empress.” The royal naga drew himself up, towering over the Lizans in the hall. Even the smallest naga could overwhelm a Lizan, and the royal and military nagas easily reached total lengths of thirty feet and beyond. “You have ssssent troops too close to my borders for comfort. I do not like thissss.” The sibilant hiss was an affectation. Most nagas could speak with perfect clarity if they chose to; they simply did not choose to. Hissing had a profound effect on smaller species.

We have come all this way, after all, to ssssort this out.” His coil tightened, wrapping around the Empress, binding her arms to her sides and her legs together. “A few… favorssss.”
