I have a sink in my house that doesn't have one of those little stick thingies that controls the drain plug. You know what I'm talking about. The problem is, the drain got closed and now I can't reopen it. Do you guys have any suggestions? I pretty much can't use that sink without overflowing it now.

press it down it might pop back up i have a drain plug just like that

I already tried that. I tried twisting it around too.

the switch is probably under the sink

there is no way its designed like this so something just broke off probably

go look for a hook underneath or something

Work a fork or a butter knife (something that won't seriously injure you if it slips) under one edge and try to pry it up. Not a good permanent solution but we had to do that with our bathroom sink drain and at least it drains. Get a plumber when you can for a more permanent solution.

I'm not finding a lever

The thing is, it wasn't originally installed, nor was it installed by a plumber. My dad made it himself out of parts so maybe he didn't include a lever

Put the theory of temperature vs foreskin shrivel to use.
If you put icey water in the sink, plug or foreskin will shrink.
Pop right out. u kno?

Just wd40 and pull it out u goober.
Use vicegrips if needs be

>It does. Pulling on it does nothing. Twisting it around doesn't help either.

My guess is the little rod that goes into the drain opening to hold the stopper in place has gotten corroded or gunk-encrusted and has become stuck. I'd try using pliers to pull the stopper up from the knob, just like
>> 581087524
said.

I doubt pictures from under the drain will help much if you didn't have a pop-up drain stopper mechanism there in the first place, like you stated in your original message.

This is where the drain connects with the piping.

>>581088537
I sort of doubt, considering this sink was built only 2 years ago and hasn't been used that much since then. I'll give it a try though

Have the plumbing done up to code by a real plumber in the future, and you'll probably avoid problems like this. I don't know what else to suggest for now, except having a plumber take a look at it if nothing that's been suggested has worked.

This is behind the drain, where the faucet connects to the water things.

so, you pull out this one (step 1 red). in dashed u can see it is plugged in.
then u get a bucket which is big enough to contain all the water in the sink.
go on to step 3(yellow) and twist the drain connection off.

>>

>>581089281
Nooooooooooo! Don't do that OP...it makes mustard gases!
>>
>>581089469
if the water is still not draining, you can at least push the plug out with a maglite or something compareable. but keep the bucket ready!
>>
>>581089281
The dashed part doesn't pull out easy, I'm going to have to take apart the whole mess.
>>
>>581090049
You honestly can't pull that apart? It's not stuck then, you're just weak as piss.

>>OP confirmed for woman
>>
>>581090206
It's connected to all the other pipes, that's why.
>>
>>581089281
Seems like a reasonable approach, as getting the stopper loose from above doesn't seem to succeed.

One thing I thought is that the cheap-ass stoppers use rubber gaskets to create friction to hold the stopper central rod in the drain. These gaskets will harden with time, and might even become wedged in the drain, making removing the stopper quite difficult.

OP, please keep us updated on your progress on this sink drama!
>>

status report: i got all the pipes off, just letting it drain into the bucket for a bit

>>581090353
I think the porcelain basin has more holes in it then ended up being used.
>>
>>581090861
typically there is a metal bar that runs to that for the drain handle.. in this case it appears to not be usable even. so why is that stop there?
>>
>>581090556
calm bro, the plumbing is quite okay, it's just a set with kitchen connections..
and the pink barrels as you call it, is sealing tape for connecting the flexible hoses with the nipple joint..
>>
>>581091103
Looked like pink plastic with some metal band to be honest.. I can't stand anything plastic being used in a pressurized situation. It is stupid

Get the dude from the thread a week ago who stole a sink from Denny's to come and rip it off the wall
>>
>>581091419
So it turns out there isn't actually enough space to twist it off cause of the wood siding. And to make it worse, the wood siding itself is screwed into the wall.
>>
>>581091692
I remember that fucking thread.
>>
use a plunger op
>>
>>581085023
Look under sink. The thing you pull up and down is probably no longer attached to the popup. Either reattach or go to home depot and get new parts. Not very expensive.

If it's completely fuck ed just get a new pop-up assembly and ask someone there how to replace it. Easy as fuck to fix. Just use some common sense and take a look down there.

sounds good. keep the plug away first and maybe look for another gasket or another plug.
there are some rubber plugs with a ring, so you can attach something for a better pull
>>
>>581092976

If after cleaning it doesn't look too bad and the rubber seals still make it tight, probably quite usable.

Probably the gunk that was stuck on the screw, athough there is a bit of wear and tear on some parts. I'll figure it out when I have more time. For now, I'm going to sleep.
