It's about alienation and, quite literally, metamorphosis.

As he turns more and more into a bug his family starts acting like he's just a bug and not the family he used to be. I'd say that the story is pretty open for interpretation but the general gist of it is alienation.

I think it's better to read those before Blood Meridian. I think it's a better book, but it's a hard read in a way too. If you don't know Spanish, have a computer handy to translate some because he does wander off in Spanish in those books at times and it'll help you a lot. Very good books. The Crossing is my favorite of the three

Yeh... No.

He's a good commercial writer, he knows how to captivates his audience and find interesting plot twists.

that doesn't make it good literature, it makes it "a sweet way to pass time".

God-tier, meaningful Literature can be entertaining, but entertaining books aren't necessarily god-tier literature. Otherwise Harry Potter is God-tier

Crime and Punishment. Quite a good read, Raskolnikovs paranoia really adds extra flavor. I started reading it because silent hill 2 was supposedly partly inspired by this novel.

The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand.

I don't 100% agree with the extremes of her philosophy, and her writing is quite dense to read, but the perspective I gained from reading The Fountainhead was amazing.

I found a similar thing with the Alchemist, but it's such a weak book I could only see it as a vehicle for Coelho's allegorical life meaning.

This is one of the best writers and stories that came out of Mexico by far. I'm Mexican and I grew up near the areas where Rulfo's stories take place.
A must read but it'll make more sense of you read it in Spanish

Tried but never finished. For some reason I couldn't get into it. I've read a few of his other works, I'm not a big fan.

La guerra del fin del mundo, by Mario Vargas Llosa. That was a headtrip of a book. I got so mad when he killed off Gall halfway through the book that I stopped reading it for like 3 weeks.

Never read Vargas Llosa. I guess I'll try some time. I've read many other US authors like Faulkner, Hemingway, Melville and other modern fiction writers, but I keep coming back to Latin American writers because I identify myself with them for some reason.

I don't know, I'm pretty fucking high...So it's about a human boy raised by Martians after a botched landing. He grows up in their culture and then gets brought back to earth.
