Can we just come together in this thread and appreciate the reality that we can all sit on our asses in our homes; no matter where we are in the world and communicate almost instantly? You are virtually surrounded by anons from all around the world (except North Korea shrek be with them).
More so, out of roughly 1 billion possible websites, we are all big enough faggots to choose this one, right now, at this specific meaningless fucking time.

Sitting on our fucking dust speck,

clinging on to one of 400 billion stars,

in one of 100 billion galaxies (and that’s just what we can see)

In the middle of an abyss.

Together, /b/.

Because OP is a faggot, forever and always.
The stars will burn out and give birth to new stars which, in turn, will burns out as well. The Galaxies will combine and dissipate, and eventually time itself will cease to exist. And the one truth we can hold on to is that OP will always be a faggot.

"Who we are" is a fruitless question, anyway. No one human life can possibly hope to make a mark on the rest of universe if hundreds of billions have yet to. We're better off focusing on ourselves and own isolated existences than to concern ourselves with the identity of others whose identity is defined by their own perspectives in the first places.

Still, a glance, a fleeting touch of someone else's life who suffers unique trials and victories, brought to you by a common interest and desire...

That's something.

Seeing Mars like that, from the surface, makes it seems so much more.... I don't know, real? Like its not just a rock orbiting The Sun but an actual planet. It has mountains and valleys just like Earth, albeit not as green. You could almost mistake it as a picture taken in a desert canyon here on Earth.

Whenever life gets you down, Mrs.Brown
And things seem hard or tough
And people are stupid, obnoxious or daft
And you feel that you've had quite enough

Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving
And revolving at nine hundred miles an hour
That's orbiting at nineteen miles a second, so it's reckoned
A sun that is the source of all our power

The sun and you and me and all the stars that we can see
Are moving at a million miles a day
In an outer spiral arm, at forty thousand miles an hour
Of the galaxy we call the 'milky way'

Our galaxy itself contains a hundred billion stars
It's a hundred thousand light years side to side
It bulges in the middle, sixteen thousand light years thick
But out by us, it's just three thousand light years wide

We're thirty thousand light years from galactic central point
We go 'round every two hundred million years
And our galaxy is only one of millions of billions
In this amazing and expanding universe

The universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding
In all of the directions it can whizz
As fast as it can go, the speed of light, you know
Twelve million miles a minute and that's the fastest speed there is

So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure
How amazingly unlikely is your birth
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space
'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth

Galaxy Song - Eric Idle - Monty Python

I like to think of it this way: since everything in this realm is recycled, we will see those times are the same components of our bodys and on some level our conscious have been used since life started on earth. in a way we are reborn over and over again. This is why I try to treat people with the respect they deserve because there are no other people, there is just me. we are one and all together, forever

From this distant vantage point, the Earth might not seem of any particular interest. But for us, it's different. Consider again that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that in glory and triumph they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner. How frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity – in all this vastness – there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves." - Carl Sagan

Easily the most humbling quote to ever be spoken

Imagine with me for a moment if you will; if we take these as deep field galaxies and say theyre roughly 10 Bn ly away, those galaxies are 5.865x10^22 miles away.

Thats like traveling to and from our sun ~ 3.15 quadrillion times

We cant even comprehend these distances

Fuck you anon. I am the biggest pussy about dogs.

I fucking love my dog, she's snuggled up to me right now. I don't have or want any kids, but my dog is going to have the best life I can give her because she always makes me feel good. I have been to the looney bin for suicide, see a shrink, get prescribed all kinds of drugs with annoying side affects. All my friends are scattered and have families of their own. But my fucking dog has been the best medicine since my sister got her for me for my depression. She makes me smile, laugh, and melts my heart every fucking day. She gets my lazy ass outside and not sit around in the dark and stew. I love my dog, she makes me feel like things aren't bad at all.

Im still here.

So anon, question. If you could do one thing that is technically and physically possible before you die, what would it be?

For me, it would be to go into outer space. How fucking amazing would it be to be in a space suit, hanging over the earth, while looking into space with no interference at all, just seeing space exactly how it is, no atmosphere or anything.

I think we’re living in a virtual reality.

Remember that time where you almost died? I think you probably did in one version of the game, however the one we continue in, we all somehow survive.

Money is like power-ups. You do stuff and get the ability to go to a new level – a holiday / place you’ve never been to before, etc.

The religion stuff is just back story. The guy you play in Doom, COD, Dark Forces, whatever looks human. A programmer made the character in his own image. Probably took him a week to get his code together. (I guess if we are in a virtual world, the ‘real’ world has computers far more powerful than the ones we use (or think we use), so time to make a game would be far easier.

Go into space, go to the moon (we did it once, we can do it again), have sex (lmao)

no but seriously if I could just go to the moon since its possible ( im not sure a manned mission to mars is even possible yet because life support for that long is crazy)

My girlfriend is at a Baptist college. Her old testament feather thinks Jews hide yeast for kids to find at the end of the passover seder. He taught this in class. He also claimed that Jess pronounce the name of god as yahway. That they pronounce the name of god.... He thinks all Levite's are Cohen. This shit was on her test. For fucks sake, they don't even know what's in their bible.

I swear, I mean my little brother is there in 10th grade now and I looked at my old science book (he coincidentally was given the one I had randomly) and it states "factually" that the big bang is wrong and that the universe is 6k years old and dinosaurs co-existed with men and such

God I can still remember the first time I really saw the night sky. Cub scout camp, in the middle of the field the sky so bright with stars we didn't need lights. The milky way a Great stripe across the sky. Absolutely fucking beautiful. I sat for about 2 hours just staring.

I only allow myself to be a dick in trivial threads like "which is better" , music, or movie threads. Serious discussions I remain civil. When talking about more serious issues, being a troll just shows your ignorance IMO.
>>
>>580207648
It is amazing I agree.
I live in a busy university city so some nights I drive out to the country about 10 miles away (rural missouri is everywhere in this state) and just sit there and just realize how small I am.
Its pretty humbling.

Yes it would, didnt think about that.
Also the energy required for it to move would be unimaginable.
Also it could only move as fast as c, so if it were longer than 186000 miles, it would be interesting to see how it moves
>>
How many of these incredibly beautiful space images are actual pictures?
>>
>>580207174
Yeah, the moon would be pretty damn cool. Mars would be better, but to be honest I cant see that happening in our lifetime, not while governments are off spending all the monies on war and other pointless things.

The pics from Voyager are cool, pretty crazy to think that in 2025 it will stop operating and just float into outer space forever.... poor thing, so lonely :-(

>>
>>580206573
The entire point of the thread is too realise that it doesnt matter what humans think or believe. Realize how fucking small and insignificant it all is to get so worked up over shit. You couldn't even let it go for 5 minutes, stupid people exist; everybody is born into a different perspective of consciousness. Let it go for just a little bit, because you are just another one of those persepctives.
>>
>>580206156
FUCK that is a cool picture

>>580207383
Man I love looking up at the stars, it's why I love night so much. I could stare up at the sky for hours and just wonder about all the different crazy shit out there, the possibility of life too. It's just mind-boggling and amazing to me that all those lights in the sky have planets surrounding them each unique in their own way. Our knowledge of space is so pathetically small compared to what is out there. If we start colonizing other planets I'll be the first to sign up.

>>580207648

I’m in the UK. Usually the sky here is orange thanks to the glow of street lights.

It was the middle of the night and I was driving home over the Pennine Hills (in the middle of nowhere, so no light pollution). I had to stop the car to get out and look at the sky - it was so full of stars you I couldn’t make out any constellations. (I’m not great at them, but I can easily pick out Orion, Cassiopeia, The Big Dipper, use that to find the North Star, etc.)
I’ve never seen anything like it before or since. It was like looking into a nebula.
