I would discourage shotachan as firstly it's leddit rejects and actual pedos. Plus the owner dropped the whole imageboard in favor of a shitty vbulletin board system that is hard to navigate. Plus you need a username now.

As for yoai-haven, i liked it until they moved and started changing their layouts. The last straw was when they switched the galleries over, and deleted half the stuff they had instead of actually moving the stuff over to the right new sections they made. They're just lazy fuckers.

Nothing more infuriating than seeing a nice category, clicking it and getting to an empty gallery. Also they completely removed the "Yaoi Sex Live" subsection that was actually shaping up to be pretty interesting.

7chan had some nazi moments from 2010. Also they were subjected to russian law and had /sm/ removed this year for awhile. Which was strange because /cake/ and /ss/ were in tact.
I like them, even if the boards are slow. It's weird to think 4chan's main competitor, 2nd most populated english imageboard, the safe haven of 4chan, and being called cousin to 4chan has been diminished to just a small number of people.
They got beat by 420chan of all places. I wish it got some more traffic.
