Dark Souls 1 has a better feeling atmosphere compared to Dark Souls 2 and the story feels a lot more in depth in my opinion i'd suggest getting the first one whether your on console or PC it should be pretty cheap. I know Dark Souls 1 on Steam is 20 US dollars for the Prepare to Die edition with the DLC.

The whole point of the Souls series is to be difficult they added a fucking covenant to make the game harder because its easier than the rest of the Souls series. The biggest reason the Souls series got big is because it capitalized on difficulty and they still added a covenant to Dark Souls 2 to make it harder you're a fucking moron.

Loved DSI and just finished DSII an hour ago. In my opinion almost all of the bosses are on average much easier than most DSI ones. Though they've increased the difficulty of white mobs. They're, in my opinion at least, harder than in the previous soul game. Especially the beginning with Champions Covenant is just pretty lame. Getting 2shot by Zombies which you have to pull in 1, 2, 2, 3 groups has nothing to do with difficulty if you're out of stamina after 2 rolls. Most of the time you're forced to retreat while keeping 1 mob aggro so the others will deaggro. That's a very poor way of playing but sometimes you're forced to, depending on which build you play.
I assume that most people saying it's too easy have been or are playing faith lightning arrows. I agree that the game gets too easy with simple faith builds.
On the other hand, as the player yourself, you can decide how the game shall challenge you. There are hard ways to play it, but these hard ways involve Poison Arrows and general deaggro . I don't like how many of the areas are set up. I feels like fake difficulty.

Depends. Dark Souls II to me felt like a combination of Dark Souls and Demon's Souls. Dark Souls has excellent level design, epic boss battles, and is completely unforgiving.

Dark Souls II penalizes players too much by permanently reducing max health every time you die. I haven't played it as much but other than that the graphics are better (on PC at least) and the game runs at 60 fps.

If I was you I'd start out with Dark Souls and see how you like it. Give it a solid effort but most importantly DON'T GIVE UP! You will die tons and tons and tons but it's one of the most rewarding game ever made.

I never got the Sif alternate fight not yet at least i'm planning that on my playthrough I play when I stream but I barely stream because my mic broke so i've just let that rest for now. The saddest lore I can think of other than we mentioned might be O&S just because they were ordered to guard the princess (they may or may not have known she was an illusion) which means we killed them for doing their job. If they know she's an illusion then they are trying to hide Gwyndolin if they don't know she's an illusion they're being tricked into hiding Gwyndolin. I always assumed that maybe the Old Dragonslayer could be a descendant to Ornstein or Ornsteins family member. It could be that the Old Dragonslayer was told stories of Ornstein and the Four Knights while he was younger and decided to try and be like Ornstein. There are a lot of possibilities but no one knows whether they're true sadly. Also do you play on PC or consoles?

Or it could be O, a weak O indeed or just some kind of hollowed O, look around Heide's Tower of Flame.
The area looks similiar to Anor Londo, it's not the same, but it looks similiar.
Imagine that Gwynevere or at least some servants has left Anor Londo and tried to escape, left Lordran and travelled to Drangleic a long time ago. There they build up this whole area, over the years it crumbled again, just like Drangleic.
It's a flame tower, maybe for Flame God Flann, a god that was mentioned that he left Lordran and was possible married to Gwynevere.
So you have some connections. Just watch out again for Vaati, he has also a clip for the Tower of Flame.

they're both great, but the PC port of the first one was horrendous (fixable with something called DSfix though).

I reccomend the first one regardless, as it does have some cintinuity (both games are set in the same world).

That would take ages for me. But there is the hidden weapon spell from the Bellkeeper, I don't think you can get that somewhere else, but good, just killing 20 hosts.
