Under the letting rights and tenancy agreement this is very illegal. Legal action allows someone to make a claim against the person for any and all rent paid up to that point, and damages. However if stated in the agreement that it may be classed as a houseshare/room share, ect then you have fuck all. Read it carefully, you will have signed it and have a copy.
