The problem is what made female wrestlers so successful on NXT wasn't being given long matches, it was being given coherent storylines that built to big matches. IE they were just booked like men.

The unique thing was that women have never really been booked like that in WWE, it's always just been insane bitch/lesbian/insane lesbian bitch vs face, and even then they wouldn't build to big matches in the same way.
What NXT did was have women's feuds that revolved around who was the better wrestler, or standard underdog stories, whatever. It was nothing revolutionary, they just used the standard cookie cutter storylines that have been pro wrestling staples forever, but they work for a reason.
WWE manages this style of booking but often only in the main event, the rest of the card just being random inconsequential shit week after week.
NXT's success kind of shows that Cornette was right: if you put the wrestling centre stage and act like the competition actually matters, everything is elevated. And that kind of basic common sense booking can easily work with Russo-style "sports entertainment." Thats the mix the Attitude era got right at its best, imo.

Seth WAS great though. He was great on the mic and his matches were fantastic. It makes sense for the title holder to be on as much as he was, especially when you consider the character he had.
Roman, by contrast, is barely on, but when he is on, it's the worst and most offensively forced shit to get him over. He's saving John fucking Cena of all people.
