I never really followed Mexican Wrestling much. Was Perro Aguayo Jr. really the biggest Mexican wrestler at before his death? Because now he's going into the Wrestling Observer HOF and I feel like it might be because of his death, but people are saying he was a huge star. Never seen it.

It's fun. Both CMLL and AAA are good. AAA is a bit more WWE-influenced so that might be easier to get into if you ever want to give it a shot. And yes. Perrito at the time of his death was the hottest guy in all of Mexico. His death was a huge blow to Lucha Libre.

He was basically the most complete wrestler in lucha, he can cut promos, he could work, he could be a heel or face at a drop of a hat. He was a generation wrestler but worked his ass off and didnt take the easy way out by using his name. Much respect to perrito. Oh and his stable los perros del mal was the biggest and most popular in mexico.

I think meltz jr aka alvearez said it the best way, his death isnt why it just reminded people about him basically highlighted him in peoples mind. Like i said he was the best all around package in mexico.

His death did play a big part of him getting in the observer hof this year desu. I remember him being dropped from the ballot before. But he was a pretty good candidate even without his death. He was the top rudo when Mexico had it's last huge boom period a decade ago, was a great wrestler and a very very charismatic guy. 2015 was heading to be a resurgent year for Perro. He was heading towards headlining the show with i think the former original Sin Cara (who was the top face in mexico a decade ago as well as being one of Perro's biggest rivals) and actually going to go over if i remember correctly. After that, he would have most certainly feuded with Rey which would have been a huge angle. AAA has had one of the shittiest years for any promotion in recent memory.

Just watched the La Sombra Rush match and Rush won with a double underhook pilediver. I thought piledivers were ilegal in mexico or is Rush's one legal since it's a underdouble hook?

Heavyweight titles aren't the main weight class in mexico so Maximo being champ isn't really a big deal. Also like others have pointed out Mask vs Mask/Hair vs Hair matches are the bigger deals than tiles these days. I think AAA does care more about titles than CMLL though.
