The fact that UFC is a shoot sport, but also because it is run by competent people who know how to create and market stars to causal normie audience, despite not being able to control the outcomes.
If the people who ran UFC these past few years were given control of WWE where they can determine outcomes and plan long story arcs, and were told to make some stars fast, WWE would be much higher profile and mainstream and actually cool and socially acceptable and worth more than $1bn.

Because of a harsh reality wrestling fans just plain don't want to accept. For decades, a huge amount of people who watched pro wrestling watched it because it was the closest thing to watching a real fighting competition with a lax amount of rules. Now that UFC exists and the stupid ass laws banning it have long since been repealed, there is absolutely no reason for those people to go back to watching WWE, or wrestling at all for that matter.

This is an important point, becuase it is the thing that will happen naturally in MMA. As real money starts to enter any combat sport, the guys stop fighting for their next meal, and start fighting to protect themselves so they can have a good life and enjoy their piles of cash.
When you have two guys in there fighting to keep themselves out of damage while cashing a cheque, the sport suffers.
