Well fuck. They lose the chance to have a funny and simultaneously very emotional rivalry with Goldust, culminating in a mtach between the two where either Goldust must retire or Stardust must go back to Cody again.
These two guys were actually massively over when they did the angle witth the SHIELD when Cody was fired. One of the best feel-good moments in WWE was when the whole locker room came out and applauded them after the match.
Both of them are also massively underrated, especially Cody. Goldust is incredible for his age, but obviously would never go too far with a comedy gummick, even if he did pull it off so marvelously. Cody on the other hand is main-event tier in terms of talent and more than decent on the mic.
So yeah, WWE dropped the ball on this one.
