A classic writing device to guage whether a character actually has 'character' is to describe them in five words without alluding to the way they look. If you struggle it is instantly reveals the character isn't well rounded and poorly contructed.

We are talking characters not the people they are. Those two points are not valid as their own points; they are only valid when "family" is involved (Dean, Usos). Otherwise he has already even said he's not the good guy or the bad guy, even further evidence that his character itself isn't generally kind or protective to such a degree that it should be a full on trait on its own.

In the ring, he's super kind to anyone. Whether it's his teammates (Invasion Attack), or someone who's his opponent (Nakamura at Road To The New Beginning).
I know 'kind' is overused, but if there is one guy who really fits it, it's Tanahashi. He actually goes out of his way very often to display acts of kindness.

Despite guys like Miz or Jericho shitting on him, his demeanor has always been friendly. Even in the case of Jericho, he was completely fine teaming up with him. Not to mention that this facet of him really shows in how despite the fact that Anderson/Gallows don't do the right thing he still tries to help them understand what is right due to how friendly they all are.

He is easily the fairest person in the current feud. For example he isn't all about this ganging up on one person thing. But if it's two people, he'll do it tag team style (with Jericho), if it's 3 people, he's willing to do a 3v3. Even after losing in a clean ending to Roman, despite coming close he still admits to Roman beating him. More than anyone else in the current WWEWHC feud he's trying to push 1v1 even more than Roman who's being more antagonistic since he's not as friendly as Styles.

His character's one of a guy who has won championships all over the world. In a few months he has already gotten himself to the top of the card. Despite losing he still has the drive to get the WWEWHC. If that's not ambitious idk what is.

He still tries to do what's best for everyone, even if they may not go with it. He wants Anderson/Gallows to do good even though they are being heelish. He wants to have a fair 1v1 with Roman, even though A/G and now even the Usos are coming in between that goal while even Roman's kinda practical about it. Not to mention that his "I am all about having the match of my life" not only goes into him being ambitious, but him being idealistic, too.

Goes crazy on Roman at Payback despite Roman shown to be the much stronger of the two. He's sympathetic to some extent towards Roman's situation, but unlike Seth or HHH, is not scared one bit of him. Also, his bravery can be seen in the fact that he doesn't just straight up feed his friends to the Samoans despite knowing how responsible they are for the feud.
