Seems like literally everyone in the industry finds him to be a piece of shit, but are they avoiding their own mistakes, or was Russo THAT bad of a writer?
>>
when you hear him on podcasts, he sounds perfectly reasonable.
>>
>>1227117
he was a terrible writer and he killed Owen Hart
he deserves all the hate
>>
he's not a big fan of the Jews or the gays

Since that's what the dirt sheet writers are comprised of you have to take their stuff with a grain of salt
>>
Watch WCW when he was there, will answer all your questions.
>>
>>1227123
except for the fact that Owen Hart wasn't exactly careful in the ring

legt points Russo made recently:
-if the final 3 of a Royal Rumble are Kane, BigShow and Roman Reigns, it's obvious who's going to win and people will boo the crap out of a predictable event, while RR was always unpredictable to a degree
-if people are going to boo Reigns anyway, at this point turn him heel
-NXT guys should get some buildup before being thrown to Raw because not everyone watches NXT
-if Dean Ambrose gets attacked by Kevin Owens early in the show, promises revenge, the main event is Roman vs Owens and Dean never shows up, it makes no sense

in short, Russo has legit great points, I'm under the impression that ''Russo killed WCW'' is a meme.

listening to Scott Hall a rule wanted by WCW executives was that highly paid guys cannot lose on tv to low paid guys because ''it's bad for business'', this is how you do not build talents
>>
>>1227142
kek no, again listen to DDP, Hall and other guys in podcasts and you'll realize the problem was Turner executives not liking wrestling and not understanding the wrestling business
>>
>>1227148
Fingerpoke was executive idea?
>>
>>1227148
>>1227154
Also turner executives had been trying to cancel WCW for years before Russo showed up.
>>
>>1227144
What awful bait, those aren't 'legit great points', that's basic logic. The fact that someone needed to do that thinking for you makes you look stupid.
>>
>>1227154
Hogan's.Hogan's (and others) creative control and Turner execs killed WCW.
>>1227159
Yes those are basic logic points and yet WWE writers still couldn't figure it out. Nor Vince. That's why WWE sucks these days.
>>
His WWF run was pretty good but the creative system and the talent were much better then. This guy was right place, right time for a golden age in wrestling.

Everything he did outside of WWF was utter and complete fucking garbage. His WCW run was probably the most insulting thing ever to wrestling fans. He's a narcissistic sociopath on top of being human shit.
>>
>>1227177
Vince and the writers can and have alrrady figured it out

They just don't give a shit
>>
Russo was one of the key people to murder wrestling. With his crash TV, wrestling got a horrible reputation and advertisers didn't want it. That's the biggest reason Turner execs turned on WCW.
>>
>>1227181
actually no, they don't have realized it and proof of this is that they keep repeating the same mistakes

Pat Patterson used to be the backstage guy writing with Vince and he'd never allow a Royal Rumble to be predictable

yet this year was the same predictable shite of the last year to the point that it was booed out again and during the match Vince McMahon changed his mind and had Roman eliminated earlier than he wanted to, to avoid him further backlash

WWE Hollywood writers do not understand wrestling and noone else calls out Vince on his bullshit
>>
>>1227182
crash tv that sent WWF ratings to the roof

>wrestling horrible reputation
>when it was more popular than ever
>implying PG era wrestling is any good

sigh
>>
>>1227181
also, ''they don't care''
they care enough to turn off microphones when the crowd booes their shitty product
>>
>>1227190

lel calm down young buck, you weren't alive then.

The PG era sucks a dick obviously. Russo was a small cog in the machine that made the Attitude Era and then when he got to WCW with total control, he sunk the ship,

WWF was on USA Network and the second hour of RAW was for adults.

WCW was on Turner who were uber-sensitive with their standards and practices and wanted a more family oriented product.

Russo walking in, making a completely incoherent product while putting himself over was the death blow.
>>
>>1227182
No. The CEO they put in charge when the Time Warner deal happened hated wrestling, with a passion.
Had nothing to do with Russo's booking, the man always viewed it as a program for inbred hicks and didn't like that their networks carried it.
He also cancelled Buffy, one of the highest rating shows for them at the time too, so that pretty much tells you how good a business man he was.
>>
>>1227197
I'm 28 so yeah I was alive.
Starting an argument with a baseless personal attack is asinine.
>>
Reminder that Piper called him out for killing Owen Hart and destroying WCW on TNA in a shoot promo
>>
The Attitude Era sucked anyway. Second worst of all time, after PG. Ruthless Aggression Era was the best, and the brand split was what got me interested in wrestling again.
>>
i don't think he was the absolute worst writer in the world, he understood the premises of what makes a good story; he just seems like an absolute shitbag of a person and an egomaniac.

if he wasn't clearly so full of himself i'd have a lot more time for him
>>
>>1227117
He's not as bad as some make him out to be, but he still had his fair share of shit ideas that were filtered by Vince while he was at WWF but let to go free in WCW.

>During the March 2007 TNA pay-per-view Destination X on the "Last Rites" match with Abyss and Sting, "Fire Russo!" chants erupted from the crowd in the arena at Orlando indicating the fans' frustration with the incidents that occurred during the match.
>being so bad of a writer that the crowd turns heel against you
reminder that this will never happen again to anyone else

>mfw russo marks

>>1227159
>basic logic
then WHY THE FUCK DOES THE WWE STILL MAKE THESE MISTAKES, if Vince Russo was a writer there, they wouldn't have happened.

>>
>>1227431
WWE has never put the WHC on David Arquette
>>
Russo only ever did good business with WWF because he had Vince as a filter, and even then it didn't always work. Hanging Boss Man in a cell was apparently Russos idea for example, and that was fucking retarded.
>>
Bro, bro, let me tell you something bro. When you listen... to his PODCASTS bro? He's really nawt that bad.
>>
>>1227194
except they don't. they just add in cheers on smackdown, there has never been proof that they mute boos.
>>

It's pretty fucking bad.

I was at wrestlemania, Roman got the loudest reaction of the night, and it wasn't positive. They definitely muted the boos on tv
>>
>>1227117
Nah, I'd argue he's up there as one of the best. People just like to rip on his few poor writing decisions and his comedy is usually in bad taste (though, Ferrera may have had a hand in that).

The reason why "smarks" hate him is because it's a meme to hate him. There are a lot worse writers/bookers out there.

>>
>>1227117
Russo was very capable guy put in charge of a sinking ship. The prevailing viewpoint that he had everything or even anything to do with the downfall of WCW is idiotic on the part of the people who believe it and downright criminal on the part of WWE who willed the idea into existence with their "documentaries", all in order to discredit him from anything he did in WWE.

Being in the crowd doesn't work very good to catch the overall reaction, since you will mostly be hearing the people around you, not the entire arena as a whole. Also, no one is denying that Reigns got booed to hell at mania, how can you even say they muted the boos when you can watch it on the Network whenever you want and listen to the deafening boos?

and then bro get this bro it's the best part bro

somebody runs in and screws the face bro
and he doesn't even have a reason or anything bro

bro the fans are gonna love it bro

Have you ever been to a stadium or used your ears? You can easily tell where the cheers and boos are coming from.

Where did things go so wrong for you, friend?
>>
>>1227189
Yeah, Vince has legit good ideas but there is some podcast with a former WWE writer where they pretty much say Vince needs a number two to dial it back and cut the shit ideas out. Instead of letting him do whatever he wants keep like 40% of what he says.

People blames him for the debacle of WCW, but the truth is that like 15 guys had creative control at the same fucking time. Even a retard could knew that a shitstorm was about to happen sooner or latter.
>>
>>1227117
He's good when he's working with others to keep it in line, you know, a straight man to his wild ass booking. If you have the zany fucker by himself, the act gets old.
>>
>>1227227

Kek, what a faggot.
>>
>>1227577
Please fuck off with this Vince McMahon filter shit. If Vince is such a good filter, why has the entire product been shit for a decade?

Russo was writing 104 hours of Raw a year, 140 hours of TV when you factor in 12 monthly PPV events. Have you ever tried writing anything in your life before? You can't come up with so many ideas in a single year that you can "filter it down" to 140 fucking hours of content. An entire room full of writers work on Walking Dead - they produce 16 hours of TV a year and half of that is filler.

You realise a) that was the decision of an entire booking committee of which Russo was only one members, b) it was used to promote a feature film that Russo had nothing to do with, and c) it was a desperation move to generate buzz after Sullivan drove the ratings into a nadir after Russo had spent three months in late 1999 forcing an uptick?
