This isn't an attempt at trolling or anything, but I was wondering if pro wrestling is coming back into popularity.
>>
>>1151861
no it's less popular than ever, the ratings are still gonna get worse on top of it. Unless you count its popular with Britbongs and Pooinloos
>>
No, it was just the biggest night of the year for pro rasslin so it seems that way.
>>
Ratings are at record lows and it's still considered a kids show, any blip on the public radar recently was purely because of Mania season
>>
>>1151863
Well, what do you think can make it popular again?
>>
>>1151874
Better booking, listening to the actual consumers (not the leeches that they accidentally put in a woman), and allowing more technically impressive wrestling instead of regulating moves.
>>
>>1151874
Popular wrestlers winning
>>
>>1151874
They stop taking "It's a soap opera for men" too literally
>>
>>1151861
Maybe besides Cena becoming a meme, Pro Wrestling is at its worse (in terms on popularity). I'm assuming it feels fresh and rising up because of NXT providing a taste to what's to come in the future and signings such as AJ, Nakamura, Aries, and probably much more to come. Lucha Underground attracting popularity with some non wrestling fans. Also the indies having social media for a platform to showcase and promote.
>>
>>1151861
Wrestling has the least amount of fans since the early 90s, but the few fans left are extremely hardcore and will go to Wrestlemania regardless.
>>
>>1151889
>Cena becoming a meme

I actually thought that John Cena meme, along with the "RKO Outta No Where" meme would make pro wrestling popular again.
>>
>>1151874
Treat it like a real sport, remove all the supernatural and kiddie shit.

Really? I could have sworn pro wrestling was popular in the late '90s/early '00s considering this was in Times Square around the time.
>>
Honestly,

It looks like they are intentionally trying to keep fans away. I don't know why, it's probably an illuminati conspiracy.
>>
>>1151935
The amount of times I've jumped off that in HCTP

Best wrestling game ever, the insane glitchy shit you could do in that stage was amazing.

>smackdown

>>
>>1151874

Vince and/or the WWE dying and someone/something FAR more competent taking his/its place.

I'm pulling for LU. ROH is all right, but they have a lack of talent relative to LU, and their more traditional approach of treating it like a Real Sport in-universe instead of a Mexican horror soap opera leave them with fewer options for angles and some of the angles becoming samey.

For instance, I do not give a single turd-burgling fuck about Dalton Castle vs Silas Young.

Also, I hear rumblings of TNA FINALLY getting its shit together from a management and booking standpoint. Too bad their decade of fucking ineptitude drove off pretty much all of their good talent.
>>
>>1151935

Exactly. The EARLY 90s, and really the mid 90s, were utter dogshit. It didn't start to pick up until late 97, and really took off in 98.

It stayed pretty fucking hot until 2002, then things started to noticeably trend downward. Slowly at first, and then a bit faster after 2007ish, and then off a fucking cliff after 2010.
>>
No and it'll never be.

The show was a fucking burial ground because the best man match was a shitty suicidal spotfest with no payoff, the best match overall was a botchfest with wymmyns, and the only people to actually get a pop were people in their late 40s or 50s. Literally nobody cares, they pay the ticket just to show they do not give a fuck.

No wrestling is not becoming more popular again. If you lived through the Attitude era then you will understand what it was like when Wrestling was TRULY popular in the broader spectrum of culture.

A shit ton of people were tuning in because it was must watch television. People were talking about the in the next day like the do an episode of Game of Thrones of Walking Dead. It was water cooler talk

Now it's at the very lowest of popularity. A trend that has been on a steady decline for 14 years. When Mania comes around everyone has a quick peek to see what's going on and then phase straight out of the product again.

The fact that this Mania was fucing horrible isn't going to help matters either..

Ok, so by consumers do you mean the people that stream everything illegally and bitch online, or the people who actually spend money on WWE merchandise and programming? Because if you mean the latter, then they do that, which is why they're doing what they're doing.

>>
>>1151861
Dude they fucking make references to nerdy an unpopular shit(DBZ). They bring celebrities who are old & washed up. Their only relevant star is BMJ. Go around and talk to normal people about wrestling. They'll immediately bury it by saying it's fake, gay, or for kids, or even ask if its still on tv. WWE is at the same level of popularity as a random kids cartoon in CN 2016. That is bad considering kids dont even watch cartoons as we use to.
>>
>>1163779
> they

The DBZ costumes were obviously Woods's own idea, nobody up-high in WWE has probably even heard of it.
>>
>>1151861
Brought it up to my cousin, he still thinks Hulk Hogan & The Rock are the stars today.
>>
>>1163786
That may be true, but they probably looked it up and approved it because its pg and acceptable to their views.
>>
Ruthless Aggression era was the last time WWE was popular. I remember all the kids use to talk about kurt angle, edge, batista, randy, and bmj in middle school. Great games came out during that time also.
>>
>>1163796
DBZ is far more violent than WWE.

New Day have been referencing 2 Live Crew for almost one year, do you think that's "acceptable" for PG WWE?
>>
>>1151861

No chance. I was 14 to 17 during the late 90's boom period and it was everywhere, the wrestlers were on sitcoms, cartoons, talk shows, music videos. It eclipsed the late 80's. The crowd for wcw/wwf was college kids getting drunk and the show was made for that age demographic so it was mainstream cool because they had fun. Wrestling audience now is a combination of kids who will grow out of it fast and people watching for nostalgia. NXT and Lucha Underground are decent wrestling shows but the main problem is that WWE has a monopoly and just isn't very good.
>>
>>1163814
What i meant to say is that the higher-ups looked it up and saw a cartoon with spikey hair dudes, they immediately thought it was pg and approved. They don't know any better, like you said higher-ups never heard about it.
>>
attitude era is when wrestling was biggest
i remember coffee shops tuning to wrestling
if not they would buy bootleg pvp like judgement day, hell in a cell, taboo tuesday etc
and undisputedly the rock and stone cold was the two biggest stars of that era
>>
>>1163824
You're literally talking in circles
>>
>>1151861
With the manlets we have today, and ugly tranny girl banks and charlie. No chance in hell it will get to be popular. Shit NASCAR is more acceptable than wrestling.
>>
>>1151861
It's very unpopular. We have no stars left, don't count on John Cena since he isn't even on raw anymore.
>>
Like an anon above me said. WWE is just another kids show on Disney channel. It's going to get worse very soon.
>>
>>1163834
Roddy Piper & Randy Savage were probably not even legit 6' and they're iconic.

>>

They were juicing in the 90's though Savage still looked big, they should let the wrestlers juice again. Also Randy Savage is wrestling, he had 10 times the charisma of the internet meme vanilla midgets of this era. Bryan doesn't compare.

>>
>>1151874
You really can only make it marginally popular again.

Without a competitor, ala WCW, the product becomes stale because they're only competing against themselves and become stagnant. People keep watching, so why change what works? It's not like they're going to leave for... what, TNA? RoH?

It, also, doesn't help that they have little-to-no idea how to build-up storylines and wrasslers and hire people who have zero experience in the business to work on such things.
>>
>>1151861

>>
>>1163897
I don't even see how juicing is considered that bad in sports entertainment. It's not like there's a competitive advantage or they're somehow 'cheating'. It's perfectly fine if monitored correctly and not abused, how do you think most actors in hollywood get in shape?
>>
>>1163926
>People keep watching, so why change what works? It's not like they're going to leave

Have you seen the ratings lately?
>>
>>1163943

I'm not sure if we're arguing, or what we're arguing about. I'm just saying that I feel WWE has this warped mindset about loyalty that people will keep watching because... they keep watching.

I'm not saying it's right to think that, but I don't see them really attempting to improve the product, they're just happy with what works at the lowest level.
>>
>>1163942

Especially stupid when Triple H is obviously running a cycle before wrestlemania to get into that shape at 46. The rock as well. I hate the sanitisation of it, When Samoa Joe cut himself in his match against Zayn on NXT they stopped the match 3 times to wipe it off with a towel.

I don't necessarily have a problem with them wiping up the blood because in other fight sports they wipe it up between rounds and stop fights due to cuts. i do hate that they don't utilize blood anymore to add intensity to the matches. even if they use fake blood. as long as its disguised well, who cares? it's entertainment, it's staged and we know it. entertain me, motherfuckers.

They have to get rid of the geek neckbeard smark fedora contrarian demographic that has been growing since Hulk Hogan first became the Champion.

The only reason all the internal problems in WWE thrive is because of the support of these whiners and the generic midgets they cheer.

The past two years could've been a great renaissance of wrestling, instead it's like all the garbage of the previous decade has gathered at the bottom of the bin.

Roman Reigns is the only hope for pro wrestling and morons who don't know anything about wrestling are ruining the one last chance because they think having a beard and being short means you're a masterful storyteller who is the best at everything despite practically no one knowing who they are.
>>
WWE has gotten so pussyfied it's unrecognizable now, it's really pathetic how they went from on top of the world, a cool and great product with megastar wrestlers, to bottom of the barrel SJW Pajeet shit in just a few short years

I don't watch weekly shows because I don't have the time nor the channels, but I did just invest into wwe network. I have watched a lot of old youtube videos and while I'm not totally up to date with everything, I have a firm grasp.

There are no more Rocks, there are no more Austins. The only pop culture things out there are the yes chants and people busting their asses on vine with J.R. commentaries

So what does WWE need to be back in the limelight?? Start small. Fucking Michael Cole and JBL are shit on the mic. Get another iconic JR and someone to suck the heel's dick like King in there and it will instantly get better. And find ways to generate enough heat on new suparstars so people legit love and/or hate them - not just recognize someone as a meme. Squeeze Orton for everything he has left and improve the tag division for the sake of future singles competition (The hardy's, christian and edge - even to an extent the APA, etc.)

AND FINALLY - HHH needs to retire from singles and focus on management. RR is trash, but at least him having the title opens up a few different options. If HHH regains the title I'l be fucking pissed because we need to circulate the new blood.

+booking
+actual heels that can break rules
+once a story starts, it plays out to it's end and doesn't get dropped without a peep
+consequences for actions
+ditch the PG, or make a PG show AND a mature age program (god knows they have several shows a week)
+listening to fans considering they're paying to be at your show
+if something isn't working, stop running it into the ground and trying to force it in desperation
+if something takes off but you don't happen to like the talent personally, let it run anyway because a couple weeks/months of some silly gimmick catching fire (eg: fandango) is still something above flatlining and it gives you more time to plan future weeks
+i like the supernatural shit. it's not everyone's cup of tea but it works for some guys.
+some more interesting names other than "it's reality era so everyone must have a first and last name and it must be pretty boring like 'jason jordan'"
+shorter programming. weekly show shouldn't match the same hours as a ppv/special, otherwise what makes it special
+stop showing all your highlights on fucking facebook and twitter, it's almost like you want everyone watching RAW instead of the specials which is ridiculous because RAW isn't up to date on your network while the specials are live and by getting people to want to watch those, you'll get them subscribing to your bloody network

>>1151863
I don't even think the post-Mania RAW scored above a 3.0. Sure, there was that basketball game going on, but still, the fact that this will probably be their most watched RAW of the year and that's the best they can do is alarming. Even though Vince probably won't do anything about it.
>>
>>1151877
Wrestling ability is the least important aspect of the wrestling business, as admitted by actual wrestlers. If they want the mainstream audience to come back, they'll have to focus on what got them that market during the Attitude and Hogan eras: good storylines, characters, promos and booking.
>>
>>1151916
