>“I had talked to Vince about wanting to go in a new direction with the character, so we set up a meeting at TV. When I got into Vince’s office he had an all blue get up laid out on his desk. I mean everything was blue; the tights, the boots, the du-rag, the shades. Everything. And then Vince pitched me his idea of making me a Crip. He had already made up his mind on having me feud with Ahmed, and since Ahmed wore red he thought he could make our feud gang related. You have to remember at that time gangsta rap was huge, and it was everywhere. But Vince wanted me to dress like a damn Smurf. I don’t think he’s ever actually seen a gang member in his life. At one part he started telling me about how if the WWF wanted to compete they were going to have to go after the guys that listened to Tupac & Snoopy The Doggy Dogg. Once again, I don't think Vince had any idea who those guys were because when he played me a sample of the music he wanted me to use it sounded like a Kool And The Gang cover band”

>“I tried my best to stay composed during all this because it was even more ridiculous than it probably sounds, but the best part in the story is the name that Vince came up with. I don’t know if it was him or Pat, but they wanted to call me Big Homie Rocky Rock. When he told me that I laughed in his face and told him the idea was BS.”

Based Rocky, there will never be another one like him. Now we got fat manlets like owens
>>
Stories about Vince being completely out-of-touch are my favourite
>>

You know that Dwayne became a huge mark for Steen years ago, right?
>>
>>1126564
he probably tells him to actually hit the gym and he still doesnt, what does that tell you?
>>
FIIINNNNNAAAALLLLYYYYYYYY... BIG HOMIE ROCKY ROCK HAS COME BACK
>>
>>1126560
can't find a full thing right now but my personal favorite is him being sold on Razor Ramon in the early 90s because he had never seen nor heard of Scarface.
>>
I don't necessarily buy all these stories. Hilarious though they are. I think he plays the out of touch old man sometimes to see what the wrestlers do - whether they'll say yes and gobble any offer out of his hand, or come to him with their own ideas.

Thats a load of shit and you know it. We've seen guys who try to get themselves over and go against Vince get crushed into the ground for doing it.
>>
>Vince:"Do you want to hire this Asian girl, right?... I don't know, I just don't know."
>JR: "Vince, there's a lot of guys who like Asian women. There's Asian porn sites."
>Vince [in disbelief]: "No! No! GET OUT!"
That's how Gail Kim got hired
>>

some do, some don't. Austin, HHH, Rock - all of them have taken ideas to him about the very core elements of their characters, and succeeded. A bunch of others have arrived in WWE with pretty much fully formed characters and got to the top - Savage, Jericho, Flair.

WWE runs like any other corporation - they have autocratic leaders, but those leaders wan the best guys with the best ideas in their organisation. When they can prove they come up with good ideas, they earn greater creativity.

>Reigns is being pushed to the top
>Zack Ryder was embarrassed and punished for daring to get himself over
>>
>>1126825
if you're only thinking about it in terms of today's roster, it's pretty talentless in most respects. Too much money involved; everybody too eager (or scared) to do anything but take what is handed to them and be thankful they're still on TV.
>>
The Rock is a great example of why the current idea of scripting wrestlers is pants on head retarded. Much like Roman, no one liked Dwayne at the start. It's only when Vince let him go off script that he really blew up.
>>
Who on the current roster other than Cena and maybe Orton would put Vince in his place like this?
>>
>>1126842
even when rock was getting boo'd to hell it was obvious that he was brimming over with charisma

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4ZmHCYOgvg

if roman came out and did this with the usos and dean I would probably become a lifelong fan
>>
Rollins seems like a reverse rock

Rock:
>not liked in his stable the Nation of Domination
>went out on his own became a top name in the company

Reigns:
>was liked in his stable, the Shield
>went out on hsi own and is almost booed out of the building each night
>>
>>1126897
it wasn't go away heat tho
>>
>>1126897
>>not liked in his stable the Nation of Domination
But NoD is where he got over.
>>
>>1126840

But Ryder got over. He had the necessary charisma.

Your point has no relation to that fact.
>>
>>1126897
The Rock was not liked when he was in his silly blue costume. He went over when he became heel and joined the Nation of Domination.
>>
>>1126560
funny but at the same time sad.
Case example.
Paul Burchill, whose pirate gimmick rolled out during the peak of the pirate craze from the pirates of the Caribbean movies, was shitcanned because vince never watched the movies, and according to some interviews from others used the reasoning of "I never watched it so no one else must have watched it"

so a sad story of vince being out of touch but also extremely egotistical
>>
>>1126556
>>1127914
Man what the fuck?
>>
>>1126897
even more compounded.

due to low rating the Rock was let off the leash and improved basically everything about his character.

Due to low rating but no competition Reigns is script to the point of the character he portays probably being nothing like the real life version of him
>>
>>1126885
>The Rock referring to himself in the third person

This was well after he started going off script, and into "The Rock" as we would come to know him. Granted he hadn't quite found his real grove yet, so yes of course had charisma there. For a real comparison you'd have to see his really early Nation stuff, or even his entry level WWF stuff.

Maybe easy pickings, but it shows you how you can really that shit around if you play it right.
>>
>>1126556
If this is true, Vince was an old, out of touch fucker 20 years ago!
>>
>>1126564
And he raised Roman's hand after a bullshit match and got booed.

I love rock, but shit nigga, I ain't gonna base who I like off a who he like.
>>
>>1127952
Going off every interview he's given in the past couple of years, the real-life Ramen is even more unlikable than the kayfabe one
>>
>>1126812
>Austin, HHH, Rock - all of them have taken ideas to him about the very core elements of their characters, and succeeded.

1999 was a long time ago, lad.
>>
>>1130377
Real life Roman drops truth bombs and smarks don't like it

If this was Dean or Kevin shitting on fans no one would bat an eye
>>
no. Roman is just adick
>>
>>1130455
lol Reigns wouldn't know the truth if Ron Killings smacked him in the face
>>
>>1126885
>that portion of the match where Rock is blocking the in ring action with his own self portrait

god he was so fucking based
