It pisses me off that we never got a 97 or 99 attire run again. The half mask and stitched costume looked lame compared to those looks.
I also wonder why they decided to not protect his gimmick in the same way they did for Taker.Maybe it was Glen Jacobs choice to do more varied stuff but considering how difficult it is to make a supernatural badass character they could have perhaps got more mileage writing him safer to his monster persona. Kane was as white hot as the Undertaker and even more so at certain times in the early days.

I think it had a lot to do with the fact it's really damned hard to get away with having two top big guys with basically the same gimmicks and, initial run aside, Kane was usually at his most over when he was doing a humanising the monster angle alongside some other faction. Monster Kane was a great throwback to the old Hogan villain aesthetic but they got a ton of mileage out of pairing him up in a way that they couldn't really do with the already more humanised taker.
Also its hard to overstate how much of a company man Jacobs is (and how much of a fanboy of Taker he is). Dude was apparently totally happy to go up and down the card and work with anybody against anybody so long as the checks kept coming.
