If you could choose any three martial arts to train, which three would you pick and why?
>>
Ghost MMA, Chute Boxe Academy MMA, and Wing Chun.

Muay Thai, BJJ, FMA

Standup, grappling, weapons
>>
Wing Chun, aikido, yellow bamboo
>>
>>1106943
Muay Thai, Folkstyle Wrestling, and BJJ.they do cover the bases for four of the five phases of fighting. Striking, clinching, stand up grappling, and ground grappling.
>>
>>1106943

Boxing, lowbar squats, and pipe bombs.
>>
Bjj, judo, boxing

Good luck chinks
>>
Muay Thai, Wrestling, Judo
>>
I only need goju because it's equally efficient in striking and grappling both standing and on the ground. There is no reason to cross train because its already a complete system that addresses all phases of combat.

Muay Thai,Combat Sambo,FMA.

Savate, cane-fighting by that one guy, and nodachi arts. That last not for any particular practical purpose, but just for the novelty of it; they're only taught in small dojos in Japan.

can you elaborate on why you think wrestling is better than Judo?
>>
>>1115348
you can't grab legs in judo
judo doesn't work without a jacket
wrestling has been proven to work because everyone in UFC does
hardly anyone trains judo in ufc.
all the moves judo has are in wrestling and wrestling does it better.
>>
>>1115343
Since you didn't put a comma between boxing and kenjutsu, you grouped them as one entity.

As separate arts, it would look like this:
Aikido, Boxing, and Kenjutsu.

Kind of like this.
I ate Ice cream and chicken friend rice.
The fried rice would have ice cream and chicken in it.

I ate ice cream, and friend rice.
Which means you ate the them separately.

Both are grammatically correct, although I was always taught never to use a comma before and.
>who would have thought there are multiple ways to do the same thing correctly
>>
>>1115396
They're both grammatically correct, but they mean different things.

Here's another example.

Today I had sex, and ate a chocolate taco.
These things are separated.

Today I had sex and ate a chocolate taco.
This is saying I had sex and ate the chocolate taco at the same time.

http://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/commas.htm

>You may have learned that the comma before the "and" is unnecessary, which is fine if you're in control of things. However, there are situations in which, if you don't use this comma (especially when the list is complex or lengthy), these last two items in the list will try to glom together (like macaroni and cheese).

A list of three isn't that long.
>>
>>1115408
It's long enough. It's the difference between nun chucks, and a 3 sectioned staff.
>>
Judo, MT, FMA
>>
Boxing, BJJ, and Wing Chun (the last one just for purposes of being in kung fu movies, which I love)
>>
>>1115403
One grammar wise implies you had sex while eating a taco

The other is a list of things done separately.
>>
I have studied Martial Arts for 10+ years now and I can give a pretty good opinion on this. You want 3 base things: An art that focuses on grappling, an art that focuses on striking, and some kind of melee weapon training. From here you can pick which you want preferably on your size/body type. Now you may be thinking why the wep training, but it is actually very useful in defending yourself in a hostile situation. The best offense is defense and the best defense is knowledge and if you know how a hostile will think than you will be prepared. No matter what people say you need a grappling and a striking. Most people only have knowledge of 1 and if you use the opposite of what they use we get back to the importance of knowledge. I hope my experience helps you choose my top 2 for each:
Grappling: Wrestling and Judo
Striking: Boxing and Tae Kwon Do
Weapons: Staff and Fencing(yes i count fencing as a martial art)
>>
>>1115650
I have studied martial arts for 10+ years now and I can give a pretty good opinion on this. You want to be well rounded. For typical street brawling, you want to be able to grapple, you want to be able to strike, and you want to be able to use melee weapons; you also want to be able to blend these things. After developing a base, it's nice to supplement with things, maybe focus more on something that fits your body type. Most martial artists are specialists, focusing on either grappling, striking, or weapons combat. If someone were to do Wrestling, and Boxing, but trained them separately and the person trained in Boxing more, that person's takedown defense is weaker than that person's punching defense. It's often best to grapple a strike, or strike a grappler.
However, if they train both together in a setting that allows grappling and striking, someone who focuses on striking will have good takedown defense, and someone who focuses on grappling will have good striking defense.
Knowledge and intelligence can compensate for each other, and knowledge and intelligence are the base for all things we as human beings are capable of doing. It should be emphasized in martial arts schools everywhere that knowledge and intelligence is important.
No matter what people say, everything is situational. To say that you always need striking, or to say that you always need grappling, is factually incorrect.

Throws and leg locks are fun.
>>
>>1115659
Only if you want to look good for movies.
>>
>>1115414
That is then implying you need a comma every time you list two things that aren't directly related...
>>
>>1106943
boxing, wrestling, BJJ any other answer is autism
>>
>>1115699
I think context factors in quite a bit.

Sometimes that is true, but most times using and without a coma with two items will not lead to misunderstanding of intent.
>>
>>1115707
Of course context factors in, English is terrible for that, but it doesn't change the fact that it's grammatically correct to not use a comma before and in a list. >>1115264 didn't need to be corrected in the first place because they weren't wrong.

>this is why we aren't discussing martial arts
>>
>>1115717
Well...
In this particular case it is not since the topic of the thread is cross training so you are actually doing them all at once.

The coma before and is used to make sure that each item is separate, otherwise it can be interpreted as the last two being blended together.
>>
>>1115717
>this is why we aren't discussing martial arts

It is not like this thread has not happened a zillion times before.

Getting sided tracked with grammar related autism is still better then what goes on in mandrama threads.

Boxing, Judo, TKD

Fuck the haters but in all seriousness I'm a very long individual so striking benefits me alot more than wrestling/grappling
>>
>>1106943

Muay Thai, Western Boxing, Sambo

MT + Sambo work nicely together, clinch + leg sweeps

I chose sambo over judo because of the wrestling influence + kneebars/leglocks. But if I could train both I would since I've found that Judoka are usually at a higher technical level in terms of executing/setting up throws, so it would nice to cross train. But Sambo wins out overall.

Boxing because even the best kickboxers in MMA can't throw hands with the best boxers. The Diaz bros show how effective that is

I'd also like to learn TKD kicks but you said choose 3, so, meh.
>>
>>1107100

>>
>>1115767

Tell that to Jon Jones and Connor McGregor. Both long as fuck (for their respective divisions) and are very good strikers

Jones has never been taken down. Connor has been submitted 3 times

The difference is that jones is a much better wrestler. Long fighters need wrestling
>>

That and because I don't see myself getting in the octagon anytime soon
>>
>>1115015
>>Wrestling > Judo/BJJ

Yet meisha never could take that belt from rousey

don't get me wrong, some wrestlers are a lot harder to get on their backs, but some are straight up stupid when it comes to working submissions

also the problem with double/single legs is that they open you up to guillotines. you can teach any 3rd grader how to sprawl

uchi mata is alot harder to defend after chaining it with 2-3 other throws unless you understand judo or bjj
>>
>>1106943
krav maga
bjj
kickboxing

would there be any better combination or substitution of a popular martial art for all around real world no rules survivability?
>>
>>1115808
>That and because I don't see myself getting in the octagon anytime soon
Create some goals for your life, faggot. It doesn't have to be the octagon, it could be a octagon.
You're going to die one day, and before you die, you could be thinking about how you could've worked your way into an octagon, but didn't.
Or maybe you've already competed, I don't know your life.

>>1115813

I like his combinations more:

>>1113601

-FMA is more specialiezd then Krav for weapons, Krav is more like a mixed bag of weapons, boxing and basics standup grappling
-Muay Thai is better for standup than Kickboxing because lowkicks, ellbows and clinching
-I'd rate BJJ over Judo in 1 vs. 1 fights (especially in the ring), but when it comes to hard surface or more than one guy you might want a style the keeps you standing while the other guy goes down
>>
>>1115977
No idea what the fuck you're on about

>>1115973
I just do martial arts so that
A - I can defend myself and others if necessary
B - To be my physical best (coordinated, flexible, accurate, fast, strong)
C - I've been doing martial arts my whole life even though I'm young I can't imagine a life without it

>>
>>1116021

>>
>>1115750
>you are actually doing them all at once
At the physical same time? Within the same day? Within the same week? The fact that this topic is about cross training does not change that they were still grammatically correct. If you want to continuously read deeper into this very arbitrary topic, where there isn't just a single correct answer to everything, we can keep going. If you can't infer that two things are being done separate or at the same time because of the placement of a single comma (which is something that is still debated today because English is terrible), you have shit comprehension.

> cherry picking based on flawed logic

You obviously don't understand what "cherry picking" means.

If someone posts 1 video of a guy who is an outstanding fighter (like you did) - yes, that's cherry picking.

If someone post many videos of average fighters and gives detailed informations and argumetns for his point if view plus some anecdotal evidence - this is not cherry picking.

Wether you like someone's point of view or not, you shouldn't just throw arround words like "cherry picking" just because you thing it sounds cool.

I think Savate just has a mystique because it's hard to find. I'm sure if there were thousands of Savate schools with many of them being McDojos, it would be seen as inferior.

Seriously though, Savate does kick ass. Perfect mix of practical moves that will ensure you're competitive at minimum, combined with a dash of flashiness, and who doesn't love flying spinning stuff?
