My dog threw up worms yesterday the were about 3-5 inches long and I immediately dewormed him after, today he has pooped but no worms or anything, he seems okay, he is a more skinny than normal though, do I need to take him to the vet? Or are they gone?

Sounds perfectly reasonable. Sounds likw you have a good vet for giving you that kidbof answer. In my experience, good vets are fairly honest with you about the degree of home care you can and should administer.
I would just make sure he doesn't get any worse. If he stops eating or drinking, or cannot keep anything down, then I would call your vet up again.

I would assume in order to get rid of worms it is havoc on your stomach. Then again I also dont really trust parasite medication over the counter when it comes with pets. Too many things can go wrong and theres too many really harmful shit for your pet that they just get away with.
A day is not long enough to loose enough weight for it to be so noticeable without it being pure shit/water weight though. Unless you cut it off you are just not going to lose that fat or muscle in that amount of time. Physically impossible.
You're gonna have to put it down.
