you can buy live moss too. it's a little tricky to keep alive though. maximum humidity and lots of water required.

Honestly you won't know until you've tried rehydrating it.
Dead moss and dry moss look very similar but dry moss will start growing again if hydrated whilst dead moss will only turn green because of algae since it's been processed.

I can not say which species it is, I just can say that it is definitely not a Sphagnum species
As Sphagnum species have a very distinct look
