They are a breed based on dog/wolf mixes, and formed from there. Of course it's watered down to the point where wolf content is very low, but it's higher than most dog breeds that are considered very 'wolfy'. I mean wolfdog is in the fucking name.
But you're right, wolfdog is not a wolf. But anon didn't say it was a wolf either.
