This one looks a little like trick photography to me.

While tests confirmed it was a domestic cat the tail was nearly a metre long. I used to have a news paper clipping with the photo but I can't seem to find it online.

My mother told me back in the 70's a big black cat walked out on the road in front of her car and stood nearly as tall as the bonnet. This somewhere in central Victoria, Australia, where most sightings happen. She said it looked like a domestic cat with pointed ears but it was bigger than her german shepherd dog.

It's a bit odd that like 98% of "big cat" sightings in places they shouldn't exist say the cat is either black or tan. You'd expect if they were just feral cats there would be a lot of tabby cat reports as well.

Most cats I have shot in NZ have been black now that I think of it but that may simply be because theyre easier to spot, I wouldnt see a tabby in a paddock if it was still and certainly not in the summer dry grass or beet paddocks.
