My parents got a new dog after their old one died. We got a new one, same race (tervurian sheppard). I went to visit my parents this weekend, so I haven't met the dog before today. She instantly liked me and she's great. But my dad. She can't stand him. At the very sight of him she starts barking and growling. He's very tall, so it might be that he's intimidating or some shit. But my dad and the dog can't be in the same room. What do? Is there a way to speed up the dog getting more accustomed to my dad? Pic related, it's the pupper

There's one coming monday. Maybe some interim tips?

Have your father keep some kibble on him and give a piece to the pupper once he's calmed down (as much as is possible).

After she's forced to meet my dad, and he's stroking her, she's calm. Or at least, not barking. Still ears and tail lowered. And she remains so until he gets up and stands at full length. It's only been 3 days since she's here, and tervurians are a disaster in new areas, we know that. But it has gotten to the point that my dad has to plan going to work at the same time my mom goes for a walk with the dog. The dog seems to like me so I hope this will all be solved, but if she doesn't improve we'll have to bring her back to her previous owner

This definitely requires professional help. She'll probably require counter conditioning. It won't be a short process. Don't expect miracles. But if the trainer is good, you maintain consistency, and work on it, she'll grow to like your father.

It's weird, since our previous dog seemed to like my father best. But yeh, it's only been 3 days and the process it took our previous dog to get accustomed to her new environment was different, but tedious nontheless

All dogs are different. How did you acquire her, anon?
