Typically extraction of most or all teeth. It's fine, they don't need teeth to eat even kibble - most cats swallow a lot of it whole anyway (soft food is obviously better, though). They'll eat better without teeth than they do with that horrific inflammation.

cats don't chew their food like humans do, if they can, they will swallow without chewing, so food like canned stuff that is already rather small is no problem even if they cat has no teeth at all anymore. They're like alligators, if it fits down the gullet, swallow, otherwise they chew it into smaller pieces until it fits
