I noticed these spots on my cat's teeth. He has it on both his right and left back teeth. I'll post another picture of the other side too.

We've scheduled a vet appointment. In the meantime, anyone have any idea what this could be?

The kitty in question. He is an otherwise healthy 3 year old indoor cat (who takes walks on a leash) and shows no sign of pain.

That's periodontal disease. If you take it to the very they will be able to take care of it for you. Until then you should start brushing his teeth regularly and consider switching to a dental food.

Thank you. The vet never said anything about brushing so we never did, which I guess helped cause it. I will look into animal safe toothpaste and brushes and start doing it immediately.

Working in a clinic, I've found that the fingertip brushes work much better than an actual toothbrush, and cats are more accepting of it. There's also stuff you can add to their water bowl to help protect against plaque build up to avoid progressing it any further.

Vet. Now. Schedule a dental cleaning visit. The vet should just give you one of those finger tip brushes when you pick up your cat from the vet. They'll also offer to sell you some cat friendly toothpaste that will taste good to your cat. Buy it. Brush those teeth at least daily.
