Literally walk away from it. Alligators on land are very slow, and won't even try chasing someone because they know full well they're too slow. Especially one of that size.

there's a perspective issue there. It's a big gator, but no where near as big as they want you to think. Maybe 2' tall or so. Walking. Gators you normally see are not walking unobstructed. They rise up significantly when walking.

That smells staged....why didn't they keep filming till it made it all the way across?
>>
He's a big guy
>>
>>2136271
Why would it be staged? Alligators are not a rare thing, it's just every once in a while videos like this catch people's eyes and then a combination of not being used to them and being shit at determining size from a video makes people freak out.
>>
>>2136285
I understand they are not rare, and it's perfectly possible for this to happen, but the way they filmed it makes me question if they faked it is all. And the fact that, for how interested and surprised they were, the guy just lowers the camera without filming more? Most people would have kept filming till the animal was completely out of sight, not just for a short minute.

Kind of like that hawk swooping off with the baby clip, this just -feels- fake in a way. That's all.
>>
>>2136287
>the guy just lowers the camera without filming more? Most people would have kept filming till the animal was completely out of sight, not just for a short minute.
Because it's an alligator, and they live in florida. That isn't some crazy massive gator, it is just bigger than average. It's not a super unique amazing moment, just "hey, look thats a pretty big gator".

>>
>>2135757
protip: almost any 4 legged animal besides a turtle can outrun you.
>>
>>2136372
No, they can't. That holds true for decent sized mammals, but definitely not crocodillians. A large croc or gator 100% positively could not outrun a person unless you literally couldn't walk. Have you spent any time around these animals?
>>
>>2136373
Alligators don't hunt by giving chase, they're ambush predators that do it mostly in the water obviously which is why one won't ever just up and run after you, but they are able to sprint very quickly in bursts.
>>
>>2136372
they can burst forward rapidly out of the water and smaller crocadillian can move fairly quick but big gators like that cant move neary as fast or nimbly
>>
>>2136266
lmao. my first thought exactly
>>
>>2136385
As someone who has worked with gators, no, they can't. They can lunge forward quickly in water, and be decently quick in the water, but they are slow as shit on land.
Small ones can run, but they still couldn't run down a person.

You can literally stand right in front of a pissed off gator on land (obviously far enough away it can't just lunge and grab you) and be pretty safe.

Alligator snapping turtles can live 200+ years:

Though their potential lifespans in the wild are unknown, alligator snapping turtles are believed to be capable of living to 200 years of age, but 80 to 120 is more likely.

That is 1700's shit right there.

>>

They're animals that snap at things that fail to see them in muddy water. If out of water, they're no threat unless you try to pet them or something.

Hawks can fuck up human shit too if they really wanted to, but I'm not living in mortal fear of them divebombing my face every time I go out, because that's just not what hawks do.

"It's afraid of you more than you're afraid of it" is bullshit though, an animal that size is afraid of very few things and some weird fleshy apes aren't on that list.

No.
People always seem to quote this line and it's completely false. Gators can run at about the speed of a human, but only for short sprints of 5-10 seconds. Large gators like the one in the OP can't even manage that.
>>
>>2138102
Horse looks bored as fuck too in my opinion.
>Yawn, guess I might as well trample this bastard.
>>
>>2135827
They measured it out, looked at actual gators doing the lunging, it's a stupid concept anon. You either dodge then run, or just sprint. The gators can't sustain the lunge speed, hence why it's called a lunge not a chase. Big reptiles are pretty low-energy relatively speaking. If you avoid the lunge you should have no trouble running away.

yeah gators are only dangerous at the waters edge, otherwise they are pussies. i mean the croc hunters just jump right in the water and drag them out. really the only animals id be scared of are the really huge ones like rhinos hippos and elephants. bears and big cats you can just be super noisy and they wont even come near you.. unless you stumble upon a mama bear, but if you roll through the woods yelling and screaming.. the giant herbivors fear nothing though. you gotta keep your distance
