Dunno about hamsters, but gerbils would absolutely destroy that thing like a bad case of termites. Mine eat coardboard, wood, plastic tubes, and even that heavy duty PVC that little mouse hides are made out of (which surprised even me). Metal is the only thing safe in there.

I recommend anything that's safe for kids to eat like PVA/school glue/Elmer's. In case the hamster was to swallow some, it would just dissolve inside them, whereas with hot glue it could cause blockages. Definitely stay away from any fumey, toxic super glues/epoxies
