I have had pets all my life, dogs, cats, chicken and other things like fish and only realized this the other day.
My pets have a better life than myself.

Got a boerboel only feed him all natural organic dog food. I eat processed shit.
Fence it back yard with dog door loves it. After work play a solid hour and again before bed.
Gets sentinel mouthly, also go the state forest every other weekend and spend 2-3 hours hiking around.
Somehow dog at 11 months old gets a splenic torsion with internal bleeding. Take him up to best animal hospital in area, pay 3,737 dollars for surgery also gastoplexy.
Trying my damn hardest to not play with him right now while his stitches heal. Just playing PC games again.

Pic related, doggo sleeping under my chair while I'm playing vidjo. She sleeps like that from about 2pm to 5~6. Tire her in the morning, playing in the backyard, getting her to run at the park, and letting her play-fight or play tug with her doggy best friend for hours. Yesterday she was so tired she had forgotten about the 6pm walkie.

Pets make good vidya buddies, it does not take them long to realize one you're in this spot it is not time for play or attention but to chill.
One of the most coveted sitting spots among my cats is my lap when I play video games because ill be there for hours, the top cats has given my other cats nasty beating for sitting on my lap since she has eternal dibs.
that's the logic i use when I do stuff to my rabbit. It has a good life on the whole so it's not a big deal

Found/rescued kitten when I was 12. Someone had burnt off his whiskers and he had a horrible infestation of worms, flees, ticks and was so skinny that you could see ribs. Also, way too young to be away from mother (found out from vet that he was only 5 weeks).
Took him and very slowly got him up to a normal amount of food (see refeeding syndrome) so that he wouldn't die from sudden surplus of food. Took him everywhere with me (including vet office I was volunteering at).
Cat became so attached to me that he had to sleep on me at night. Could go anywhere with me because he would never leave my sight (camping, hiking, vacations, sleep overs, to my grandma's ranch, to the vet office I volunteered at, everywhere).
Loved that cat so much that I got an apartment while in college so that I could have him with me (no pets allowed in dorms). He'd lay on top of my books so that I had to pet him instead of study. I got very good and petting him, taking notes and reading at the same time.
Taught him stupid cat tricks and we would do this thing where he'd wrap his claws around one of my fingers and we would both very gently pull.
He'd get special treats all the time (lunch meat, a bit of egg, bonito flakes, anything I was eating that was cat appropriate).
Spent $3000 to have a tumor removed from his eyelid and tested to see if it was cancerous. Had to see a specialist to have this done.
When he got older, got his meds from a compounding pharmacist so that I was able to just rub a dermal gel on his ear instead of having to pill him.
Overwhelming grief when he got kidney failure, died.

He does like small kittens though, very protecting of them and loves to cuddle them but once they get old enough he hates them.
The cats love my Labrador, all of them even the former feral who is prettified of dogs, often they will run their tails under his chin or his belly and sleep with him. Two cats tend to bother him by not leaving him alone and rubbing against him.
The lab and the four cats live in fear of the pointer, the cats avoid him completely and the lab sucks up to him as much as possible.
Hes a tyrant among the animals but a sweetheart to the family.

Both my dogs were my brothers rejects.
My eldest brother owned the pointer and brought him hunting when the dog is young but he was moving to a location where he could not have the dog so I took him in because I have enough space.
He was never socialized properly as a pup so we never got the chance to get rid of the bad habits the breed can bring.
My brother still brought him hunting until he got too old to go, he is about 8 or 9 now.
The lab is a reject from my other brother, he got a cute andrex puppy with his wife but the andrex puppy grew up.
They are sensible people but it still baffles me they think they could keep a dog that size in a tiny city box garden or in their tiny house and he is a big for a lab.
Another problem was he was "unmanageable" and "stupid", they did not have time for him either so they were gonna give him to a shelter.
I took him in too because I had the space and did not want him to waste in a shelter.
It took me less than a day to teach him some manners, the dog was bored and had no space not unmanageable.
He has lots of space, company and exercise and turned into a very well behaved dog, it was not hard to train him either he was very very eager to please.
Hes intelligent too but just acts like a puppy or plays dumb.

Still tear up when I think about him. He died about 10 years ago and it still hurts. Sometimes at night I think I hear him purring or think I feel his weight on me.
I took better care of that cat than I took of myself. When I'd go to work in the morning, it would really distress him. I'd sit at the door with him a few minutes and pet his and tell him that I needed to earn money to get his food. Not that he understood at all.
He had my roommates and their cat to hang out with and it still wasn't good enough. He'd yowl the whole time I was gone.
