Try planting some flowers or plants that attract them.

But what do they like

I have cucumbers. Do they like cucumbers?

Of all the things to mimic, you chose a fucking hummingbird.

That thing is barely mimicking a hummingbird, its way closer to a bee

The European species look a bit more like hummingbirds.

Which is funny, because there are no hummingbirds in Europe.

They are super cute

You have to see it in person to understand. They are much much larger than bees and the way they fly is EXACTLY like a hummingbird.

Every now and then I'll think a hummingbird is in my garden and Ill grab my camera and then it turns out it's one of these guys. Pic related, taken with a 60mm lense.

They aren't nearly as afraid as humans as hummingbirds however. You can get pretty close.

why not what eats a hummingbird? they are way to fast to catch and probably not worth the effort.

It is obvious why hummingbird is in its name, but why hawk?

it's supposed to be native here but I've only ever seen them during a really hot summer in like 2006.

their population exploded over the last decade.

Most Sphingidae moths are considered "hawkmoths", though some species go by the name "sphinx". I believe the "hawk" comes from their impressive flight speed. I dunno if you've seen them in action, but they can be kind of jumpy, and if you brush against one by accident it will bolt and be gone within a second.
