One of Zimbabwe’s largest wildlife reserves, the Bubye Valley Conservancy, recently announced that they must reduce their number of lions, currently at 500, by at least 200. This “issue” is being called “The Cecil Effect” by some, as the overpopulation is being attributed to the fact that trophy hunters are afraid to hunt after the uproar over Cecil the lion’s death at the hands of American dentist Walter Palmer
>>

>"must be reduced"
>"issue"

Hahaha ok. What they are really saying is

>oh no, our profits are going down
>please give us money to kill these animals
>they NEED to be killed.. yea yea, NEED
>>
>>2124755
>overpopulation
>not enough natural resources to support the population
>population becomes susceptible to disease and starvation
>>lol they are lions, they can figure it out
>>
>>2124757
>believing any of that is true here.

Keep being a "redpilled" faggot all you want. I don't give a shit about the lions or cecil but you're a fucking idiot if you think this is about anything other than money.
>>
>500
>at least 200
>Cecil
so they got at least 67% more lions than they wanted in well under a year? bullshit
>>
>>2124761
You do know a habitat can only support a certain number of animals right?

You also know that its rangers jobs to make sure that number doesn't increase to the point that there is too much competition for too little food right?

What do you suppose a lion does when it is hungry?

They wander out of the parks into the local farms and kill livestock, this in turn inspires revenge killings from the farmers to ensure that the lions don't endanger their only means of survival
>>
>>2124763
Hunters haven't been culling the animals they regularly would and they aren't bringing in money to support the rest of them
>>
>but we only shoot old, non breeding males!
these non breeding males are essential to keep the lions from overpopulation by preventing youngsters from overbreeding
>>
>>2124764
blah blah blah

Your assumption that the habitat is overpopulated is what makes you such a retard.

Try having an original thought once in your life.
>>
>>2124776
Your assumption that the people who are responsible for the animals know less about the situation than you who read one article on it is embarrassingly moronic, try using some intelligence for once in your life
>>
Do you think people would have cared if Cecil had been an endangered antelope of some sort?
>>
>>2124787
if it was cute.

Telling what the internet is going to get all pissed off about is literally impossible. For fuck's sake people flipped out because they couldn't tell the color of a black and blue dress.
>>
>>2124786

This. Although it's always better to avoid blind faith at some point you do have to trust in those who's lives revolve around this every single day over yourself. Or at least come up with some better argument then some high-schooler's reasoning of "it's all about moneyz"
>>
>>2124807
>black and blue
M8...
>>
>>2124753
Here's the next sentence btw:
"True conservationists know that human hunters are not needed to cull or regulate the numbers of animals"
Yep. Totally not bait.
>>
>>2124839
Did they say who those conservationists are?
>>
>>2124816
To be fair, Zimbabwe has started trying to sell their animals to make up for the "drought" that happened these last 2 years. Conservation is important but I wouldn't put it above Mugabe to sell off 200 lions that they don't actually have to try and save face after this "drought." Unless the conservation efforts are by a third party outside of Zimbabwe, then I'm just talking out my ass.
>>
that's some bullshit
>>
>>2124753
>Zimbabwe
This is the country that banned whites form farming, because white r da devil, and is now begging for them to return because people are literally resorting to eating rats to stave off hunger.
Mugabe is fucking retarded
Zimbabwe was a fucking mistake and shouldn't exist.
>>
>>2125549
>muh rhodesia
Both countries were shit and lions are scum anyway
>>
>>2125804
I had family out there at the time, the system was actually resolving itself, if gradually, some of the less successful farms were taken bought by black farm managers, after zanu came in things got pretty painful, rhodesia was a surprisingly advanced society despite the huge inequality legacy of colonialism
the government both Rhodesia's and the UK's should have implemented land reforms

american trophy hunters should really spend their time tracking and eradicating invasive pests like feral pigs, foxes, rabbits; Australia, New Zealand or America have plenty to dispose of.
>>
>>2124761
Huh
>>
Do lions reproduce like fucking rabbits or is this bullshit?
>>
>>2124757
>>2124761
It's both. Apex predator populations that are left unchecked will go out of control and disrupt the ecosystem. So they want trophy hunters to pay to come shoot some lions. Problem is no one wants to and now they have to go euthanize 200 lions for nothing, so they do want people shooting them and get money out of it instead. How else are they gonna support the wildlife reserve, Monopoly money?

Most US states have no bagging limit for feral hogs for exactly this reason.

In fact, you some states (texas) you can get away with shooting feral pigs without a hunting license
>>
>>2127028
This is the truth. But lions are predators and cannot destroy the habitat as a herbivore would. If anything the lions should starve if their environment cannot support them.
>>
>>2127032
>Most US states have no bagging limit for feral hogs for exactly this reason.
It blows my mind that some states do have a limit, NY your not allowed to hunt them at all.
>>
>>2127072
the feral hogs taking over the south aren't the same as the feral hogs that have been quietly doing their thing in the eastern states since about the 1500's.
>>
>>2127028
does anons think this graph can apply to humans?
>>
>>2127072
Apparently what happens if you shoot a couple boars, the herd scatters, and spreads and breeds in even more locations.

What they're trying is to catch a whole herd at once like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFUNXKATbJg

The reason hunting works in southern states is because hunting boars is a lot more popular -- people go out and shoot many of them for fun, which is enough to keep the population low. Whereas in jew york there are not enough hunters, so shooting a couple boars now and then actually spreads them

In theory yes.

Except humans can advance in technology, allowing them to increase the carrying capacity in a given area.

E.g., before you could only farm so many calories of food in one acre, but with GMO, you can now triple your food output per acre of the same land.

Inventions like crop rotation, artificial fertilizer, and modern pesticides, and modern farming equipment all helped with this.

>Your assumption that the habitat is overpopulated is what makes you such a retard.

Conspiracy theory much?

Their reserve is overpopulated. They brought up the Cecil thing in passing because it's a buzzword. They know it isn't the main reason. In fact, I bet the journalist that wrote the article was the one that asked about Cecil in the first place, because it makes headlines.

The fact the entire Cecil thing happened at all is proof they've been trying to cull these lions for a while. Not everything is a damn conspiracy, and you are clearly out of your intellectual league on the subject. Relax.

>Cecil thing happened at all is proof they've been trying to cull these lions for a while.
What? How the fuck is that proof... for fucking anything?
>>
>>2127327

If they didn't have enough lions, you think they'd be selling off kill rights?
