What is the best way to play with your cat? Sometimes at night my cat tries to hunt me so I'll fake jump at him and then he'll run and hide, then I'll run and he'll chase me. Is this stimulating enough for him or does he actually think I'm trying to scare him?
Probably the latter.
I don't bother with cats at night. Mine went completely fucking skitzo in the dark.
If possible, just let them go out and hunt for real.
I remember when I was trying to sleep they would crawl under my bed sheets and attack my feet and legs with full claws. Had to lock them out my bedroom.

When you let a cat have an indoor/outdoor life, you cut their life expectancy in half. Get some cheap fake mice from Walmart, or tie a ribbon on a string and let it go crazy. The best time to do it is before you feed them. You can actually get them to sleep on your schedule, they just like to "hunt, feed, sleep." Hope this helps. <3
