JUST CLONE ME ALREADY
Why? Natural selection took its course with these guys.
>>2102226
We can make them better.
>>2102226
So we can eat them
You telling me you wouldn't try some Dodo tendies?
>>2102226
Since when is natural selection defined as "killed off to deccorate women's hats"? That's what actually happened. Whatever was left was eaten by non-native predators brought to the islands by the people slaughtering dodos to decorate hats.
I think they would be a great cloning project! Imagine the silly things wobbling around. I wonder what they really sound like?
>>2102099
we don't know how to clone birds yet.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_animals_that_have_been_cloned
>>2102237
Apparently, they tasted terrible.
>>2102250
They cloned a fish. It's a step in the right direction.
>>2102257
How is that apparent?
>>2102262
yep.
I'd guess they'll clone a bird in the next 20 years.
extinct animals like mammoths or dodos might be 50-100 years from now. Or I should say to get a healthy animal that lives longer than 9 minutes after birth.
>>2102250
who is this "we"
>>2102287
everyone on the planet without exclusion.
not a single person, animal, plant or fungus has cloned a bird yet.
none of us.
>>2102238
I like to think they sound like chocobo. "WARK"
>>2102295
Keep a hold of that belief anon.
Of course we already know what they sound like.

>>2102374

Fuck I don't know. And I damn sure am not going to waste my time finding out because of something as trivial as how "we" is used in this context. Get a fucking grip man.

an intelligent species bringing these things back with SCIENCE because of reasons would also be part of natural selection
>inb4 not natural
this falls in the category of environmental factors caused by inter-species relation
RESURRECT THIS FUCKER
GAS ALL SLOTH
>hey guys, let's clone [insert extinct animal] and bring it back!
I guess no one understands that DNA decays very rapidly. Bringing back anything that went extinct more than 100 years ago has about the same odds of success as trying to resurrect Lee Harvey Oswald and asking him if he acted alone or not.
>>2102449
Literally everything humanity can and will achieve is natural.

>In 2001, scientists at Texas A&M University created the first cloned cat, CC (CopyCat).[4] Even though CC is an exact copy of her host, they have different personalities; i.e. CC is shy and timid, her host on the other hand is playful and curious
It knows it's an abomination of science
>>2102560
>twins dont exist
>>2102257
I was always told they went extinct because people couldn't stop eating them.

>I can't wait for a clone of a gay guy to be straight, and watch the utter shitstorm.
Are you proposing the being gay is nuture?
>>2102374
Pretty sure there aren't any parthenogenic birds, so....
>>2102560
Pretty much everything is up to life experiences. I doubt any clone would end up with the exact same personality and preferences, even if you raised them the same way.
>>2102756
I think that had more to do with how easy it was to catch them rather than how tasty they were.
>>2102226
They're apparently delicious, I say bring them back
>>2102776
There are.
>>2102817
Yes, but it's only been seen in domesticated poultry and captive birds. And even then the resulting offspring are pretty messed up.
>>2102758
Like everything else in psychology it's nature+nurture.
>>2102756
Sailors would eat them because they were easy to catch since they had no fear of humans and thought nothing of them.
>>2102869
Still an example of parthenogenesis in birds.
>>2102980
pretty sure birds still don't know how to clone birds.
animals do lots of things without knowing how they do them.

Could you picture pet dodos? Wobbly little guys with harnesses on their backs, strolling with their owners making "WARK WARK" noises like chocobos.
Science, this needs to be a thing. Nao.

Animals wiped out by humans really should be brought back. Like, I get the ethical debate about cloning back dinosaurs and stuff like that, but more and more animals are going to go extinct as we go deeper into the anthropocene and imo calling that natural selection is a bullshit excuse for passivity in the fact of biodiversity getting wrecked. We should start fixing our mistakes now, and animals like the dodo or the great auk are a good start.

How about cloning cat-girls instead? Humanity would be a lot happier.

Catboys would be better. All the benefits of having a cuddly buddy with no drawbacks of having a woman around, plus all arguments resolved immediately with knife fights.
