Hey all, I need some help in deciphering what kind of snake this is. I found it in my back yard and I'm worried that it may be venomous. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm afraid to let my dogs out, please help!
it's a garter. common and harmless.

it looks like an average snake, maybe a water snake? it has no rattle, it doesn't look like a viper, but you could be aussier or something dumb and I'd be wrong it's an alaskan death cobra.
Let your poor dog poop, snakes aren't likely to pick a fight. Especially in spring, she's out looking for a mate, judging by the pine cones.
Invest in a good stick, with a fork, should cost about 3 seconds of your time. carry it with you when they're out, and just listen to them.

those went out of fashion like 80 years ago. a snake that is too small like OP's can't be effectively pinned with one and a snake too big just gets hurt if you try to hold it down with a forked stick.
I live in Georgia if it helps, but I feel a lot better now. Got a lot of people saying it's just a garden snake. Was afraid that it may be a young Cooperhead. Thanks again!

What's with the "garden" snake thing? They're GARTER snakes.
OP, the pattern is too busy and fine to be a copperhead. The pattern on a copperhead is much larger.
Brown recluse
None of these answers are correct, it's a harmless brown snake, Storeria dekayi. Looks literally nothing like any single native venomous snake except for that fact it has no legs.
