Carnivorous plant thread. Is coconut coir like the ExoTerra bricks (expanded with distilled water) suitable as a substitute for peat moss as substrate for carnivores?

Live sphagnum is shit for low plants, it covers all of them. I have to pull my dionaea out every month or the moss engulfs them. Pretty good for Sarracenia though.

Anyway I'm not posting pics because they are just finishing dormancy and still look like shit.

it's pretty nice for all droseras, but yes trimming is a downside.

Closest I've found (granted I wasn't looking that hard) is live pillow moss.

I've got a few spots nearby where it grows, I wouldn't use it if I had to buy it because it's expensive as fuck though.

I have this Nepenthes sold as a Sanguinea Blackjack that I think it's just a Rebecca Soper. Anyway I'm not complaining, a very vigorous and strong plant that can be kept outside in a cheap greenhouse during the mediterranean winter

Mi favourite hybrid sarracenia (x fiona) x Flava rubricorpora is growing its first flower this year, Maybe I'll hybridize it with a regular flava

Nah, Majorca has very mild winters. Even my N. x Ventrata doesn't have too much trouble to go trough winter, although it stops growing from January to March.

And here's my S. Flava that hasn't been totally dormant due to this year's unusually hot winter and has been growing deformed traps

Nikon D3100 with stock lens.

I need to buy a macro-lens, but don't want to pay 400+ euros for it.

Not exactly mine, but every year I give away the hybrid seeds of all my sarracenia to a group of friends that share the same hobby.

This one is a two year old Sarracenia x fiona x wrigleyana, growing its first flower. I don't know how many species are in the mix since x fiona is a commercial hybrid, but I'd say purpurea, leucophylla, psittacina and maybe a hint of rubra.
