Confirmed it is a Desert Banded Gecko.

Leave him alone, if he is on the road put him in a parking lot or a walking path, somewhere he can still have warm pavement but not get smashed or eaten.

They aren't as easy to care for as Leopard Geckos that you see in pet stores. If you really want to keep him then let this one go and order some captive bred ones online, they will live much longer and healthier.
