My first betta and my very first fish, Cornelius. I was really excited to give him a ten gallon, heated, filtered tank, but I didn't actually know anything about cycling then and by the time the nitrites were peaking he was done for.

Betta #2, rescue attempt betta. I found him still alive in a trash can at a fish shop, so I just grabbed him and walked out the door. He looked way better after a week, but ultimately he didn't make it either. I only ever referred to him as "The Unfortunate One."

Plain Wayne my betta mang.
He went home from the shop with my friend, survived a tank disaster, subsequent cycle crash, then being kept in a breeder box for a week or two. I took him off her after all that and he mostly looked like crap for three months before he passed on. Haven't done bettas since.

Yeah, he was a cool dude. I just had ghost shrimp in there with him. They ended up eating his fins.

Several, ranging from a 2 gallon shrimp tank to a 40 gallon community. I've never had as much trouble with any other kind of fish as I have with bettas. Though I suppose it would help if I didn't keep trying to pull rescues.
I think the only way I'd consider getting one again is if I found a black plakat crowntail or something squally impressive.
